@kbern nice edit man! I think that you have to bend your knees more to absorb bump and holes,speed will come naturally..and personnaly elevated mode was a revelation for off road!

@fabuz thanks for the tips. I like your riding and your videos. I will try to concentrate on bending my knees more (I'm kind of a "lazy" rider on my snowboard too... bending is too much work, haha).

Regarding "Elevated" mode, it's really funny that you mention that because I thought I was in Elevated mode the whole day! I had switched to Elevated the other day to go up a big hill, and thought I was still in it. And so on these trails I was really pushing hard on the nose, thinking "phew, thank goodness I'm in Elevated mode". Then I did some cruising on pavement after my offroad run and went to switch it back to "Extreme" and noticed that I already was in Extreme. Haha. Yeah, so watching the video, going up some of those hills my nose was definitely dangerously close to the ground.
Next time I will make sure I'm actually in Elevated mode.

@germx Great job over the rails. I bet that saves you a lot of money on petrol to ride your board vs driving. That seemed like a long ways to your work. Also, where in the heck are all the people in your city??? There are hardly any cars or pedestrians. I think I counted 4 people on your entire commute that were walking. I guess you don't have to ever worry about waiting in traffic.

@fabuz Yes, this was a great place to ride, and it's only 10 minutes from my house. I had never been before, I just found it with a Google search and checked it out. Turns out, it also connects with one of the coolest and longest paved bike trails I've ever been on, and I can't wait to try it out with the OW. I just have to be more comfortable on it first, because one false move on it and you're tumbling down a 100 ft concrete embankment! :-O

Thanks man! Those aren't sidewalks, though, they're taxi lanes for remote control aircrafts that lead to the runway. I wasn't really "supposed" to be riding there, but it was pretty empty that day and it seemed like the perfect place for a OneWheel!

This is a pretty fun path to ride, although you can't really do much carving due to the number of bikers flying by. But there's a little cafe about 3 miles in, at the El Monte Airport, that I was able to stop in for food and make sure my battery was charged up.

@Dude totally agree. Riding on the beach and in the woods gives me a kick, and is Onewheel's definitive super power. I found out yesterday that I have been riding with extremely low air pressure in the wheel (below 10 🙈), upped that to 14-15 and suddenly my ride and control was a lot better. I've tried to hold it "backwards" with the pole facing down towards my elbow and stretching my arm back... but cant seem to get the angle right and end up missing the board (too far to the side) in the shoot or dropping too low and filming my butt.

@rainynite That's how I hold mine. A good trick is to use the iPhone app to frame up the shot first, then tighten everything once you get the camera the right angle, and you'll be less likely to miss shots because it's not lined up right. Also experiment with the different fish-eye settings, some are more narrow field of vision than others. With the widest setting, you're less likely to miss anything, but it also makes everything that's not directly in front of the camera look like it's miles away.

Great advice about open-road riding, too. Best to ride in areas where you can practice maneuvering and not feel the need to ride fast for at least the first month. It's so tempting when you're just starting out to feel like you're comfortable enough on the Onewheel to ride at top speed when you get on a big, open road (and a lot more difficult to even judge how fast you're going to begin with)... but an extremely painful lesson to learn when you find out you're not quite ready yet.

I have become hyper-conscious of sidewalk maintenance since getting my Onewheel, and sometimes I even find myself going through the neighborhood block-by-block on Google street view looking for smooth concrete. Appears to be in good supply where you are. Thanks for sharing!

I use Google Street View all the time too! I commute to work on mine now, so whenever I have to ride somewhere new, I always look for the best route first, which is basically a sidewalk check.

Folks who post videos: how do you get away with including background music? It's been a while since I posted anything to YouTube, but my old videos got taken down because I had the audacity to pair them with music. I always included the artist and song title and still got nabbed for copyright infringement. Just wondering because once I get my board I definitely want to start posting videos of my own!

@thegreck Thats the trails that got washed away by major flooding in my area 2 months ago. Trail stops there now, I'm waiting for the local mountain bikers to rebuild some more of the trails. It will take them a few Months but 1/2 of the trails are still somewhat ridable. I might have a Beach Video in a month or so!

@fabuz Awesome stuff man! Yeah, looks like it's all about coming at those inclines from an angle and carving it sideways. The board wants to stay level when you go straight up, making the nose dig into the cement. And in Elevated mode, it kinda makes coming back down the hill awkward.

Absolutely! During my 1.5 month wait for my Onewheel (which seemed like an eternity!), whenever I'd try to describe to people what I had ordered, they'd get a confused look on their face and say things like, "You mean like a unicycle?" or "You mean like one of those hoverboard thingies?" I'd be like, "No, like THIS!" and show them the video.

It always seemed to clear out whatever lame image they had floating around in their heads and replace it with something kick-ass.

@DocBlock .. Cheers dude, glad it came out well... They do look good with this retro style vinyl wrap... PLease note though, this isnt a very tough vinyl and will rip if the side of the board scrapes across the ground in a crash... I've gone over that wrap with clear 3M helicopter tape in places to help protect it a little more.....

@Polle Yea, American expat, I love it here! I shipped my OW from the US (it was a pain). I never got an answer from Lufthansa and shipping was the least risky way of getting it here. I'm pretty sure I've got the only 1 in Transylvania, at least I've never seen another. If you end up bringing yours to Cluj definitely let me know and we can go ride around! There are some great bike trails around.

I like to be able to see the rider and the Onewheel as well. Might as well have the GoPro mounted on the front of a tricycle if all we want to see is a video of an oncoming sidewalk.

Yea everyone asks us about that. Heres are reasoning 1. I tend to have my front foot at an angle and on the old Onewheel it wouldn't work as good if my foot was at an angle 2.I move my front foot a lot so I can turn sharper so I don't want it to disconnect while riding. 3. Idk but I like it that way:)
