@Boogieman awesome man, thanks! Just noticed the pics.

You ever find a stronger adhesive?

    No issues so far otherwise?

@lynnpreston I would think that the tape would rip, or bulge in places. Tell me what you think about this; I was kind of thinking of adding something like a thin piece of plastic around the edge of the grip tape. Perhaps a frame like that would hold it in place. I guess we won't know what works until we try it.

@veryous Using 3M77 right now, think I will try 3M90 which is supposed to have a higher heat rating and better bond strength.
Board still running great no sensor issues whatsoever.

    @jeremyschow
Notes: The entire grip pad is glued to a thin plastic sheet, the area on the sheet that covers the sensor MUST remain glue free. Cover/protect it when respraying/regluing.
The areas to the Front and Rear of the sensor have thin plastic sheet sections that are glued directly to the wooden pad. Your grip pad/full plastic sheet assembly will be glued to these to complete the job.
The end result is the upper and lower third of your front pad gets glued, the center third(sensor area) is glue free and free floating.Pad map.JPG

I ordered a new set of footpads from the website and it was totally worth it. They send you two new amazing looking pads that right after installing makes your boards look brand new.

It comes with instructions, new screws with thread locking (once you take your originals out the locking is ruined) and tool needed to install. Totally recommend.

So far my front footpad has slipped only about 0,5 cm IMG_0154.jpg

Can I keep riding until it gets worse? Im worried about damaging the sensor underneath.

@pteasima I wouldn't worry about it damaging the sensor. If it gets a little glue on it, you can use a product called goo gone to get it off

Somebody mentioned putting a screw into the footpad to stop sliipage.
    Not sure how that went.

But given the diagrams of how the pads and board work, a screw should not cause issues as long as it's not over the sensor or so long that it goes through the wood.

Mine is slipping but no problems yet. New pads are not too expensive which is what I'll buy if I have any issues.

you might be able to put washers under the screw that are already in place to clamp the grip tape in place

@lynnpreston I tried the screws through the grip tape. It worked like magic! I used some very short pan head screws. Three across the front, and three across the back. Even after several hot days my grip tape hasn't moved. This was a brilliant idea!!!

@J-Glide That's awesome! Glad it's working well. So far my Vicious grip tape hasn't slipped, but then again I haven't left the board in the sun for long periods yet either (a waveless summer, ugh). If it does start slipping, I'm definitely giving this a try.

@lynnpreston Did you apply more adhesive to the nylon strips under the tape where it meets the wood?

    lynnpreston 16 July 2015, 11:48 UTC

@J-Glide No, I just trimmed the grip tape backing for the sensor, and applied it. I have a can of 3M spray adhesive (unsure of specific variant), but I wanted to try without it first. I have seen the spray reduce the adhesion of factory-applied adhesives before.

@sifo Yes, in my case they replaced both wooden pieces as part of the footpad swap.

@DVO I want to say they are quarter inch size screws, but I also removed the footpad to make sure that if they did go through they didn't hit anything. The ones you need to worry about the most are the ones closest to the lights.

@J-Glide I want to let you know that I have experienced the same issue as you, when the board continues to run after I jump off. This seems like a seriously dangerous design flaw. I have written onewheel, but wanted to post here as well for others to find this. I will post whatever resolution I get back from them.

I’ve had my onewheel out a few times now. I’ve never had a problem with it when getting off of it… I normally get of smoothly by rotating my toe, but even if I jump off it with both feet, that works fine.

Today, however, I was letting a bunch of friends at work try it (they all loved it, ob-v), they where all pretty much jumping off, and everything was fine at first. After about 45min of this, when people would jump off (from an absolute complete standstill), the board would start running off on its own, accelerating! It smashed under two cars this way, two separate times. Then I tried jumping of as a test, being careful to really jump with both feet at once, and it did the same thing (though that time it only rolled a bit and then stopped).

This has never happened before, and I’m scared to ride it in San Francisco now because if I have to jump off I don’t want it zooming out into the middle of the street under a car!

When I get off smoothly, but rotating my toe, everything works as usual.

Sorry, forgot to mention... software 3034, just installed this morning. I wonder if there's a bug in that? Though, keep in mind that this runaway board issue was not happening at the beginning of our outdoor session, it only started happening after a while.

@J-Glide In case anyone else ever has this issue, I wanted to mention that this thread about my issue primarily took place in the "General Discussion" section titled, "After a failed dismount, my onewheel took off!!", here (they may remove the link):

Sorry to have cross-posted, but that was a more relevant thread.

So I took the plunge and decided to regrip the front footpad.
    Board still works fine.
The grip tape is over a thin plastic sheet that isolates it from the sensor, the only remaining issue is finding an adhesive thats strong enough to resist the torque slippage that still occurs. The grip tape stick fine to the plastic sheet, it's the plastic sheet glued to another underlying plastic sheet that creates the slippage weak spot.

when you re gripped, why didn't you make the grip bigger and cover the whole panel and then use the 4 corner holes to help hold the tape in place?

@eish - I could have went for full coverage, but I like the look of wood showing around the edges. I've regripped again and eliminated the plastic sheet insert. I'm using a folded sheet of card stock over the sensor. Grip tape now has more wood to grab onto and has not moved at all even in 90+ degree northeast riding weather.

@eish oh yeah man, there's like a ~1-2mm inset where the grip tape lays so it's flush with the wood.
