    @Tartopom
I have to buy a printer. Anything I should know before I purchase one? How much of that stuff do I need? If I do make one I will coat it with spraypaint or some type of epoxy. How long is the setup and can I use xp? I have a fender btw and recently took it off to clean the wheel. The problem is where the back pad is exposed near the wheel and the dirt gets lodged under the pad. I rode it without the fender and it was unbearable with the stones kicking up on the pad and in my sandals.

@Tartopom thanks and it seems dope from what ive been able to gather from reading. would it be possible for you to post a video of you riding with it? also what about those of us who dont have 3d printers... or did i miss that somewhere in this post

Read his post right before yours again. He lists three companies you can order 3D prints from.

I have ordered stuff from sculpteo before... They were cool. They did the logos for my guitar cabs... 0_1467348988828_image.jpeg

@Dude send me your email in PM and I will send you the STL, Note that my printer is still out of order, so I've not been able to try it yet. so far it successfully printed to 70%, so I guess it should be OK.

@Dark_Knight unfortunately, not yet as my printer is still sick...I will give it another try tonight.

@frotozoa my printer is a Prusa i3 Hephestos, a derivation of the Prusa I3 open source model. Only thing you should take care of is to have a heating plate to be able to print ABS. and buy some DIMAFIX too, it's an amazing spray glue that has been designed for 3D printing. if you buy just 1 roll of ABS, 1kg, you will be able to print tens of fender...they are actually around 90gr each.

If someone else want to beta-test the STL file, just drop me your mail in MP :)

@Dude no problem, I'm currently printing the second half of the first side of the fender, then I plan to weld them together using acetone, as I'm printing or using ABS :-)

I printed the V3 last night, tried for the first time to smooth it with acetone vapors. I need more practise, but overall the result is not bad :)

I will try to install it tonight and give it a try :P

I'm not certain I understand what acetone vapors are, but I can say that I wiped my factory FutureMotion fender down with acetone in an attempt to clean it, and it came out beautifully shiny, by surprise. A bit streaky at first, but considering all I was trying to do was clean it, I was very pleased. Please tell me (us) what "acetone vapors" refers to, and how it is done, or a reference if possible. Thanks!

@Count you was quite lucky because Acetone is a chemical product that is a solvant for ABS plastic. so when you used it to clean your ABS fender, you make it look shiny...
ABS vapors is what happens when you put Acetone to boil, it will produce steam that will make any ABS parts melting a little and become shiny and smooth...
This is what I did to the mini fender, that's why it looks shiny :)

    quick answer...

I don't plan to sell anything, but I will give you the files so you can make it printed professionaly by some companies like sculpteo for example. My printer doesn't succeed each time to do something great ;)

    Looks really nice!
For dry weather conditions, to keep your pants clean, this is much cooler than a full fender.
But is it high enough to stop 'all' dirt to be thrown up?

Looks super slick in black, nice job. I love my stock fender... But I am super curious about the physics on this and am dying to see how it stacks up

    Salut Tartopom!
J'ai eu accès a une Stratasys et ai lancé la V3, j'ai un problème de parois trop fines.

    I switch to English :
If you print "too thin' there is a Pb on the V3 which I cannot solve with the STL's.
The stratasys cannot print thicker the sides are not behaving nice while printing.

Since the sides are not plane so I cannot 3D extrude them!

Maybe the original 3D file allows to thicken the sides ?

On the pictures below, I've marked in black how thick it could be improved from the base.

    Could you help me there?

    Thanks
    Arnaud
PS: Will post photo later, need to resize them, not fancy on iPad...

Here is the Pb when too thin :

    0_1481310119290_Too thin issue.jpg

Why not thicken this part :

    0_1481309708461_IMG_1187.jpg

Too hard from the STL file as not plane... probably a problem between my seat and the mouse as well ;-)

    What would you recommend ?

    Bye
    Arnaud

    Finally
I've launched tutorials on 3D drawing and made lot's of triangles to reinforce the sides:

Looks like nothing but probably stronger...

    Hello @rno :-)

Happy to help, and to learn 3D drawing, loving it !
    Here is the file: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1956405

Maybe you have to wait 24h for it to be available.

On my side I am not sure to have again access to a pro-printer... will find other soon :-)

Cool work put into this! I tried using thingiverses in house 3D printing service but it errors out and when I upload the files to sculpteo it gives me an error "Design has fine details which will break, please review its solidity" and won't let me proceed. I don't know anyone with a printer and can't afford one myself but does anyone know how I can get these beauties printed online?

Hello, this is a minor fix @faskev
    I have removed

    • letter details that could jam the process.
    • the male / female insert supporting assembly that could block as well

Fix is at the same place: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1956405 new files.
Try downloading the "SIMPLIFIED V4.0 Fender Half Rounded.stl" and Mirror it should fix your Pbs.

    Cheers

I know what my issue is, it's the scale. The files seemingly want to have the scale set so small that Sculpteo isn't able to print it. Does anyone know what the dimensions of the fenders should be so I can scale the 3D image up properly?

@faskev: It is as large as an OW, metric or imperial both the same :-)
