haha, you are right, one should think twice before activating this feature, but I like it;-)

It is a little bit crazy indeed, changing the settings to make it a "risk app" whilst beeing a "security app";-)
anyhow I would like to see more of those features in future releases, e.g. a "revert detection" or simmilar...@SeeTheInvisible could make a separate (inactive be default) settings section like "irresponsible settings";-)

It's accomplished, finally OWheelBuddy has to be released by Apple. It's in Apple's hands since about 5 minutes, so if everything goes well, it will be available shortly.

A quick overview what the first release contains:

    0_1471979139090_IMG_8104.jpg
    0_1471979149725_IMG_8109.jpg
    0_1471979157617_IMG_8110.jpg
    0_1471979165303_IMG_8111.jpg
    0_1471979175154_IMG_8113.jpg
    0_1471979180911_IMG_8114.jpg

It warns you, celerates new top speeds with you and tells you other things which you may want to know when riding the awesome Onewheel.

    Features:
    • Low battery alert
    • Regeneration alert (battery overcharge warning when going downhill)
    • Point of no return message (50% battery charge left)
    • Battery fully charged notification
    • New top speed message
    • Wheelslip detection (to not mess up your top speed)
    • Consumption display: tells you how much percentage of a full battery charge you have burned
    • Regeneration display: tells you how much percentage of a full battery charge you have regenerated (when going downhill or braking)
    • Total odometer display
    • Board live movement display: shows the movement of your board
    • Auto connect to your favorite Onewheel
    • Board name: give your Onewheel a name
    • Internal values display (Temperatures, voltages ...)
    • Simple social sharing

OWheelBuddy supports metric and imperial units.

Future versions of OWheelBuddy will also offer trip logging (with GPS) and much more.

To the compatibility: the oldest iPhone OWheelBuddy works with is the iPhone 4s. It also works on the iPod Touch 5th Gen and newer iPod Touch devices.

if you wonder why it's name has changed from WheelBuddy to OWheelBuddy -> WheelBuddy is already occupied on the US app store (Wheelchair user app).

Thank you all for your support!

@SeeTheInvisible I guess we'll find out soon enough, but did you mention price?

Also, I searched WheelBuddy and nothing came up, so maybe the name is still available? Or else you barely missed it and they uploaded just before you.

@thegreck No, It didn't mention it but what I can say is that in Austria and Germany it costs € 4.99, in the USA also $ 4.99 (Apple's 4.99 price tier ...). Regarding the app name: You can't find WheelBuddy on the app store as is not submitted yet by the developer, but the name is already registered.

    @kayak4r & @thehoff Yes, it'll be available worldwide :)

Yeah, finally the app made it to the store!

@thehoff There are 2 different settings options, the global settings which you'll find in the iOS settings app, and those settings which only affect one Onewheel. Glad to hear that you have found it.

For the rest: Go for it, it's really funny to top your own top speed from day to day :)

    Cheers
PS: The first update will happen within the next few days - give me your feedback and rate the app on the app store. Btw: one feature which definitely will be implemented shortly: a night theme. I realized that this feature is absolutely necessary as I came home from a ride about 30 min. ago (well, it's now dark night in Austria ...).

    @MichaelW, @thegreck :
So far I know, the only thing the the "riding goofy" setting changes, is the right animation of the onweheel. try pressing the sensor and it will be visualized on the right onewheel - you see a foot there. all it currently does is changing the side how the foot is displayed on the sensor;-)

but you´ll never know what he is going to implement next,;-)
might be usefull to track something.

@Wrex turn on the wheel spin detection!! If you don't turn this on then top speeds can be false (faked) because it will record the speed of wheelspin after a bad dismount..

Looking forward to seeing real top speeds posted. I had 26mph on this app until,I turned the wheelspin detection on!!

(I am not saying your top speed is fake) 😜

Looking forward to seeing real top speeds posted.

yesterday (pre-beta) I had a top speed of 32kmh (19.8mph). It was very interesting for me, because the last months I just rode elevated mode, and there I was not able to exceed 27kmh (16.7mph). @SeeTheInvisible told me to try extreme, which I did and I was suprised to find out for myself that the difference beteen extreme and elevated is not just the different angle of the board, but also extreme´s ability to by far more easy push the top speed...

App works great! It's definitely well thought out.

    Future enhancement requests:
    Estimated charge time remaining.
    Estimated range remaining.

Obviously both would have to be self adjusting estimates but it would still pretty handy. If you were feeling fancy, you could keep historical information about average miles per charge, like a car's historical mpg.

i was able to reach a burst of 16.9mph on my first pass.

on every ride since that the bluetooth craps out at around 13 and most of the ride is spent 'connecting' with very few readings here and there.

the Bluetooth Low Energy has maintained a connection with the official program from what i've seen but i'd guess the failure is with my board. i'm using an Iphone 5 with tested bluetooth and holding it about 4ft from the board when i ride.

does anyone else have this issue or is it my board only?

@mrb strange. I have found the wheel buddy app has slightly longer range than my official app. Maybe only by a foot or so.
I went out tonight to practice switch at my local cricket ground. Grass has just been cut short for tomorrow's game. So I thought I'd wind her up and see what I could get. Still slightly nervous after my full speed nosedive last week on Tarmac and hand, leg and knee still have large scabs.

First run was 13mph then second was 14.9mph. So I pushed thru pushback and got 15.9mph. I have no need to ever go faster than that. 0_1472243162656_image.png

@mrb Could it be possible that you had running the app from Future Motion and OWB at the same time? This would be the only case wich could cause connection issues (The OW can handle just one connection).

@FeralBoy13 Yeah, your requests are aligned with my plans (a display as you get from every "modern" car's board computer) ;)

@Polle I think we can rely on the speed as long as wheel slip detection is turned on. The app does the calculation based on the wheel diameter which I have calculated according to manufacturerers specifications and the rotations per minute reported from the OW (I have also veryfied the wheel diameter with an old school measuring tape ...).

Regarding top seeds: this value depends on your skill and of course on rider's weight, but if you ride on a track which is just slightly downhill, you can get really awesome top speeds, of course, it might hurt sometimes :)

So let me just announce the last update for this week before I'm going to Italy for a short break - the update has just been submitted to Apple for their release:

Fix: App crash which rarely happened when opening settings while connected to your OW.
Fix: Social sharing on iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 fixed (snapshot size was wrong).
Fix: Speed display could get misaligned after wheel slip was detected while the app is in background.
Fix: Goofy mode was not displayed properly (heel and toe were exchanged).
Change: Absolute top speed now displayed with 2 digits after the separator in the details page of your OW.
Change: Wheel slip detection is now per default turned on.
Change: "New top speed" message only gets triggered for speeds exceeding 20 km/h or 12.5 mph (to avoid spamming the notification screen when riding the first time with the message turned on).
Feature: The consumption and regeneration value labels are slightly flickering now to indicate updates (so you can better see whether if your board is consuming or regenerating energy while riding).
Feature: As a safety measure, you can't change the riding mode while your board indicates more than 10 km/h or 6 mph speed.
Feature: Average speed is now also displayed (Click anywhere on the speed label to toggle between top speed and average speed of your trip).

@mrb in the iOS portion of the app, change the setting to 'goofy'. It seems as if the orientation is reversed from normal, but that will fix the way your diagram is illustrated in the app0_1472842500905_image.png

Could you add a timeline with instant speed (raw data) AND foot sensors state?

Call this the "black box" graph to help put facts on people crashing !

@thegreck I have said it before and I believe you have as well but I really think most nosedives are user error that are blamed on the board. A lot of it I think comes down to inexperience and the board makes you feel very comfortable within a few days so people start pushing the limits before really knowing what it actually is and is not capable of.

    Agreed.

In fact, after a nose dive, the rider will lose confidence and start riding slowly and gradually building confidence over time in which he's gaining more experience and understanding how OW works.

@Rno Graphs (timelines) will come ;) I also tried out your suggestion and when carving for about 0.5 miles in ended up in this: 0_1473406278530_FootPad.jpg

My testing trip was kind of frightening because as I stopped for a break and to check the messages, I realized that I had forgotten my pads and even the helmet at home - and then the app told me that you're relying on one sensor most of time while carving ...

So just throwing a message everytime one of the two sensor looses activation is not feasable.
Anyway I've implemented this feature in a way that works: An alarm gets triggered when moving faster than 5 mph (or 8 km/h) and one foot pad sensor looses activation for more than 5 seconds. This feature can be useful to detect bad sensors and a misaligned foot which can easily happen when riding a longer bumpy path (especially when riding in the dark).

@thegreck Unfortunately, this won't work in a way which makes sense - When this alarm would get triggered all the app could do is to tell you "get well soon" :). The app can't distiguish if you got off accidently or intentionally (you can't find out what happened first - nosedive or dismount). I have to think about that, maybe there's something I can do to make this feature usefull when taking the pitch angle into account ... We'll see :)

Btw, a new version which will be available soon on the app store has been sent out to the OWB test community:
    New Features:

    • Estimated remaining range according to your current riding profile (Tap on the consumption or regeneration bar ...).
    • An efficiency display tells you when you're squeezing out the maximum range out of your battery (Tap on the consumption or regeneration bar - it's the bar behind the estimated range label).
    • Current power consumption and regeneration in Watts - also displays the max. values of the trip (Tap on the consumption or regeneration bar ...).
    • A footpad sensor warning which triggers at speeds higher than 5 mph or 8 km/h when only one of the two sensors has been activated for more than 5 seconds.

    Changes:

    • Slightly new app icon.
    • Onewheel movement display's side view now also considers riding preference (regular/goofy).

    Fixes:

    • Controller and battery temperatures were not accurate.
    • Onewheel movement display's baseline is now properly aligned on iPhone 4s devices.
