@fabuz nice edit

@fabuz Sweet edit! And Richie Jackson doesn't wear a helmet either! https://youtu.be/qRN9gIWGYTg
Sucks about the sensor-issue crash, but at least the smashed pad got replaced anyway.

FINALLY! Got a video of what was happening - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-osXCP6Dx8w&feature=youtu.be
So it tends to do this randomly, I was riding with my gf and it kept happening so she took a video and finally we caught it on camera lol.
I'm going to contact onewheel and show them this - are you saying they can send replacement footpads that I personally can replace?
My only worry is that since I purchased this through Best Buy, hopefully I don't have to go back through them and can instead go directly through OW.
Thanks!
-
@ajwhitt44 Bro that is not good, never seen that before, and you need to change out the footpads. Send that video to OW service, and they'll probably just ship you a replacement pair that you can then install.
-
@ajwhitt44 The fact you bought it from BBY explains a lot. Having worked there for almost 3 years, that thing was probably thrashed by the employees before selling it lol.
That's nuts though, definitely not right... -
@ajwhitt44 Yeah, this is definitely a sensor issue. When you jump off, the sensor is probably staying depressed somehow, so the board thinks someone is still on it and is trying to stay balanced. The bucking is because it needs the weight of a person on it, otherwise the self-balancing doesn't work; it just makes the deck flop around like crazy.
You can replace the pads yourself, so just send the video link to support and hopefully they'll send you a new one.
-
@ajwhitt44 omg! That's mental.. You can hear the motor shutting down and turning on many times.. Censor could be sticking. Support needs to see this

That's nuts though, definitely not right...Damn man! That's not cool lol. I can attest when I unboxed the OW, it was minty fresh - no scratches, tire was untouched....so I'm sure nobody "thrashed it" lol.

Thanks for the feedback. Happy to know i'm not going crazy, as I don't see this behavior from the board in any videos I've watched. I contacted customer support and sent them the link to this forum post along with the video. Hopefully they'll help out.
I wanted to take this board with me on labor day weekend vacation so here's hoping I'll get a quick fix. Fingers crossed.

@ajwhitt44 Whoaaahh..yeah man that's not right.
I'm more than confident FM will agree.Support will send you new pads and ask you send them the old for diagnostics.
No charge to you.It took about a week for mine to ship then about a week to get here(west to east coast). The sensor pad is super easy to replace so worries.
Look forward to getting it fixed and enjoying the board the way it was meant to be.

@ajwhitt44 also register your board
-
@Santoki thanks for the reminder. I have not registered yet.

@Santoki all registered!! haha thank you!

Quick update, Future Motion is sending me new footpads as other members advised they would.
Excited to replace them and see if the board is more responsive to my dismounts! I doubt they'll get here before the weekend so I'll just be extra careful with the board over the Labor Day break!.
-
@ajwhitt44 nice! I had the same issue. OW sent me replacement footpads at no charge and changing them out takes maybe 15 minutes, they even provide basic instructions and a handy little tool that helps with unscrewing the footpads cable from the OW. Eliminated the issue of the board sensors malfunctioning and I've had no issues since.

I had the same problem 2 times, and the second time my board crash on a sidewalk, check the video, we can see the onewheel is continuing to go, this was the first time...
How did you do to receive a new sensor from FM?
-
@ellokoho contact Support and let them know. Ideally with a video of it happening.
-
Eellokoho @hustle 1 September 2016, 13:34 UTC
@hustle thanks for your answer !
I'm going to do it !Did you watch the video?
-
@ellokoho Yeah, that's really weird. I'd like to see another where you are going towards the camera a bit more so we can verify foot presence but it's still very odd it just tanks like that. You're riding with sensors in the front, yeah?
-
Eellokoho @hustle 1 September 2016, 13:57 UTC
@hustle I don't have the other part of the video I deleted it...
yes I ride with the sensor on front !
So now I'm sure there is something wrong on my board...
Thanks for watched the video ! -
@ellokoho It does seem to be that the sensor is sticking, and when you come off the board it thinks you're still on it.
But the nosedive happened because you have the sensors in the back and lifted your foot completely off of them. You should switch them to the front if you have the habit of lifting your back foot up like that when you ride.
-
@thegreck Think he has sensors in the front as the chargeplug is also in the front?
-
@Polle Yeah maybe you're right. It just seemed like a weird coincidence that it nosedived as soon as he lifted his back foot.
But his stance is very front-heavy, and I think when he lifted his back foot, he actually transferred his weight to the front, which caused the nosedive.
He should bend at the knees a bit when he rides, and keep his center of mass over the wheel more. And get new sensors.
-
Eellokoho @thegreck 1 September 2016, 14:28 UTC
@thegreck thanks for your answer
You re right guys, on this video I'm riding with the sensor on back...
But usually I always ride with the sensor on front...I have no problem with the nosedive, I was practicing I wasn't taking care...
My problem is that its not normal the onewheel is continuing to go without my foot on the sensor ... and that's happened on the road, but on the road my board went very far and crash on a sidewalk
-
@ellokoho I'd try and ride with the sensor in front so your back foot can have more freedom for carving.
Try and get a video of the runaway board and support will hook you up :) -
@ellokoho You're right, and I acknowledged that. I just wanted to point out that it could be extremely dangerous to ride off-balance like that and to nosedive going full speed. Even when practicing, you should be riding with your weight centered so you don't pick up any bad habits.

Hey guys, just for information, I checked back my video on a computer, and I zoomed on, for sure the sensor was on front position !!
