OK, this confirms the rails scratch easily:). I don't really care about the scratches, I was just trying to get a sense of how much actual use this used board has. Picking it up tomorrow:)

Mine is all scratched to hell, the wood is worn down, it's spun out in pavement a million times. I let my kid and nephews ride it. Once you
Get used to riding it, you don't scratch it up much. But depending on your initial skill level, and where you learn, it can get scratched up easily. But... Chicks dig scars.... Won't hurt it, it's a board sport, enjoy the flight :)

What's the best tape to use?
I've never seen or heard of rail tape, and I'd prefer not to use duct/gorilla tape.

3M Vinyl Wrap. Watch this to see how to do it properly: https://youtu.be/Kdr9Ch-TFSc

Rode my new-to-me board 4 miles today. Whoohoo! Took it easy on the street and road several blocks to a park. Practiced carving on the grass and only ate it twice:). Tried extreme and elevated mode...think I like elevated more. The battery didn't seem to last long. After 3 miles, I was down to 20%. Firmware is at 3034 with no option to upgrade. Oh, and I definitely added a few more scratches:)

@cytoe Try charging it overnight to balance the cells. You should be getting closer to 6 miles on a charge.

@THEGRECK: will do. however, this box does say 4-5mi / 12mhp max (vs 6-7mi/15mph max). I'm wondering if the difference is the firmware version (3034) or hardware version (2026).

@cytoe there are lots of answers here on mileage..

So many factors need to be taken into account

When I got my board all I kept hearing was you should be getting 6-7 miles!!

Best thing to do is leave on the charger for 48 hours and that means your battery will be balanced and you can rule that out.

Then go ride on different surfaces..

Here are my stats and they are not one dimensional! Because softer surfaces put more load on the motor and uses more battery..

Take a bike onto the beach and see how hard it is to pedal compared to riding on the street..

Riding on grass 2-3 miles depending on how short or dry the grass is

Riding on asphalt 5.5 - 7.5 miles depending on how many hills I have on the trip.

My son (who is half my weight) gets 9.5 miles on asphalt!

Also the better you get on onewheel the longer it will travel for because you can hold a better average speed with less stopping and starting..

@CABALLERO - This is some really strong stuff. Helicopter tape. It's made to protect the leading edge of helicopter blades from wear. A friend uses it on the front of a low sports car to protect the paint when he goes up driveways. It's clear so you can pant/vinyl the rails etc.. then protect it.

Having a blast so far. So how much noise does your board make (besides the tires)? Mine sounds like an old phone modem (9600 baud? Ya, I'm old) at times.

@Polle: hmm. I wonder what it could be. Only noticeable at slow speed. Perhaps I'll check the bearings.

@Polle: Dang. Searched and it sounds like something that I have to send it to get fixed (loose wire in the hub motor?). I wish I knew to look for this when I bought it:(.

@Polle: Yes. I'm going to be sending it in. Onewheel has been great...I'll post up about it when it gets resolved. Here's a vid of the noise (disregard the hairy legs): https://youtu.be/3wTLxzDNHNg

@cytoe they should cover it if it's still under warranty. Even if it's not they probably will still cover the repairs from hearing about other people's experiences with them.
