@akraut You aren't given a location that is good enough to hunt them down?
-
-
@drewbaumann Every time I've gone to that location, they've moved and my phone never connects. I'm pretty sure they got picked up by someone. They show up all around the city.
-
@akraut weird. @sonny123 Not conspicuous at all!
-
@drewbaumann
Well, with little carpentry work, I'm sure I can find a spot for it. lol..
Here's more ideas.
-
@sonny123 I see how it works with the videos help. That is pretty nice. I wonder if you could fit it somewhere on the Onewheel. I'm curious if the GSM requires adding a line to your phone plan. If you take out the chip it might work!
-
Most thieves probably know about GPS tracker and will dismantle it.
I think the best chance to find it is within the first few hours.Unless it's buried somewhere.
Like if it's a small chip, it can be placed under the grip tape and digging in the wood.Nothing beats a good kryptonite lock.

-
@drew I wonder if this would work
-
@njcustom Got a link? Also, would it fit? I realized my vinyl is covering up the screw holes covering my wire control box so I didn't get a chance to look at the space available last night.
-
-
@njcustom Assuming it fits and you find an affordable way to handle the wireless I think you should be good. I would probably use Twilio's wireless SIM to handle this use case.
-
You'll likely get what you pay for with most of these things. I think an actual GPS tracker that's going to do what we're hoping isn't going to be cheap.
This one looks legit. It's only 2" long and you could attach it under the deck (close to the wheel so it doesn't get smashed if the nose or tail hits the ground). Most any thief will assume it's part of the board:
http://www.spytecinc.com/gl-200-real-time-gps-tracker.htmlBut it's $75 and you have to pay $25/month to receive tracking info. Probably the cheapest device you'll find that actually does what it claims.
-
@thegreck a monthly fee ruins it for me lol
-
@njcustom Me too! I might go for an $80 device if it works, but fuck the monthly fee.
-
@thegreck exactly lol
-
@njcustom I think you might be best off with that device you linked assuming it fits in the enclosure. Like I said the twilio SIM could work well with it given it is only 2 dollars a month.
-
@njcustom Would you be able to measure that area and see if the device would fit? I might get one to experiment with it assuming that it would actually fit. Another drawback is the battery only lasts 5 days, but one can work around that.
-
@drew where my finger is measures 1.5x1.5x1.5
-
@thegreck
$25/month?
I'll finance a second OW. LOL...
-
Ain't no one touching my OW baby...
-
@sonny123 😂😂😂
-
@njcustom I know you love my fender. lol...
-
@sonny123 love it 😂😂
-
@njcustom
Just easy snap on/snap off..
But gets me the question, did make make that? -
@njcustom It looks like it will fit if you gave me accurate measurements. I found the same model for less.
Note it's cheaper because its sent out of china.
-
@drew 1.5x1.5x1.5 is accurate I thought lol
-
@njcustom Haha I believe you. I mentioned that because 1.5in is 3.8 cm and the largest dimension of the unit is 3.3cm.
-
@drew I will double check but I believe it was 1.5 inch..
-
I stuck an Iota Tracker in there this morning to see how it would fit and it works!
-
@drew nice.. how does that thing work? Same as the others?
-
@njcustom http://www.iotatracker.com/howitworks. It's not perfect, but I had a couple sitting idle on my nightstand.
-
@thegreck apparently you don't need to pay the monthly fee until you need it active (e.g., stolen). And no fee to activate service. So seems to make sense.
