Doing some more digging. The first time I experienced the pushback issue I checked the blinking lights and I was pretty certain I saw 7. Regardless it was 5 when I checked on this recent excursion. I think connecting via POWheel defaults to 5 blinks. I tried manually cycling through modes and I can access 5 blinks 6 blinks and 7 blinks. I set at 7x blinks and went for a ride without connecting to POWheel. It felt amazing, if there was pushback to be found I was not willing to look further. Not sure how fast I was going due to lack of app but it felt fast! Definitely the upgraded experience I was looking for vs v1. I am looking forward to having a compatible app but for now I'll probably just stay disconnected and leave it in 7 blinks. Regardless of all this, the pushback I am getting on 5 blinks is insane and borderline dangerous.
-
@markdjr the mode you're riding in when pushback kicks in and feels dangerous is Classic Mode. More of us get hurt riding in that mode than any other. Everyone in this forum agrees- never ride in Classic Mode. They should have named it 'just when you're figuring this thing out and starting to get some speed, we're going to make the board get all wonky and toss you over the nose and onto the asphalt' mode. Ride in Extreme, or Elevated if riding skate parks or other similar conditions where you need to keep the nose up.
-
@markdjr I posted a link for the new beta android apk, search for by my username.. :)
-
My plus pushes back at 15 mph consistently and I'm definitely in Mission mode. It sucks cause 15-18mph is where i'd like to be cruising at but it's sketchy when the tail drops. Any ideas? What speed are other people's Pluses pushing back at?
-
@CBR-954rr I experienced pushback only once, (before I had to send it in for repairs) and my max speed is 16.8 mph, so I'm thinking that was when the pushback went into effect. It definitely caused me to slow down and reset my cruising speed to around 15 mph. It sucks yours is happening at 15 mph!
-
Just got my plus last night. Cruised to work at 16mph today in Mission and didn't feel any pushback.
-
Mmarkdjr @CBR 954rr 14 April 2017, 19:38 UTC
@CBR-954rr Try manually selecting your riding mode via the pressure sensor and don't connect to the app.

I manually went through the three modes. The first one pushed back at 10mph, second one at 12mph, and Mission at 15mph.
I really don't want to send my board back in but it feels like I'm stuck with the training wheels on. What do you think the chances are that FM can fix this remotely? -
Rode my v1 this week and couldn't be happier. What a champ. Just sent the plus back to FM for an inspection. The tail literally dragged on the ground after going over little bumps. Pretty sure the engine was disengaging, causing this to happen.
-
Rode the plus a ton today! Honestly... I'm torn... I feel like its better in a bunch of cool ways but the one way its not better is such a big deal. V1 turns and carves so beautifully... If only it didn''t hit pushback so soon. So I think I will own both as I don't think I will ever be able to give up how smooth and nimble the V1 carves. Honestly, I hope they come up with a few adjustments that the owners can mess with and create the perfect board we want. That would be the ultimate! That is all...
-
Yeah, I'm noticing more and more how sketchy the plus is off-road.. the motor keeps feeling like it's disengaging.. the tail drags alot for no good reason.. dropping off curbs it's always drags.. I pray they fix this with shaping..
-
@MichaelW
You took the words out of my mouth about the V1.
Love it in every way.If only they could reduce pushback a bit on the 3056 version.
It's too pronounced once you hit 13-14 mph.
Would be great if we could download/update at home rather than sending it in. -
Aahxe45 15 April 2017, 19:56 UTC
Soo what would the general consensus be with you guys about upgrading if I already have 2 v1s? Is it really worth putting out the money or should I just wait for a true version 2 to come out?
-
Ddakota4ce @ahxe45 16 April 2017, 03:08 UTC
@ahxe45 I am biased, and also have 2 V1s. I cancelled my plus order and grabbed the second one, actually. I really could not want for any more than the V1 gives at this point. Until something great comes along (like more range), I am staying with what I have.
Love it.
-
Mmarkdjr @dakota4ce 17 April 2017, 16:36 UTC
@dakota4ce Easy to say since you haven't ridden v2. Definitely some kinks to work out, but since I stopped using the old android app for my + I am really happy with the performance. Definitely a significant upgrade.
-
Aahxe45 17 April 2017, 17:36 UTC
@markdjr I have heard a few other people say that using the updated app has made a huge improvement because whatever mode the + is shipped in is really crappy like "classic" was for the V1. I just really want to hear from a few people who had a V1 for a significant amount of time if it is worth forking out another $1500 for the +. Money is not really an issue but I also don't ever waste my money for the most part (my car is 10 years old, have had the same 3 pairs of shoes for 3 years, don't have cable... you get the idea). I don't want to buy the + and have it barely be any better than my V1 which I am more than happy with. I ride mostly offroad so the only thing I am looking for in terms of improvement would be swapabble batteries which the plus does not have and significantly more power to climb up hills and through soft sand and dirt not just a small improvement though.
-
@ahxe45
Exact same reasons I'm holding off on the +
My V1 paid for itself many times over and justifies the purchase of the +
I'm just not ready to abandon it since I'm getting the same amount of fun as ever.
Most reviews on the + seem positive though.
Probably main difference is that it's few miles faster. -
Mmarkdjr @ahxe45 17 April 2017, 18:21 UTC
@ahxe45 I think the additional power of the + is going to make it really shine for you off road. I thought I was having issues, but once I adjusted ride modes manually and stayed off the app the + has been performing as expected. Whether or not it is 300-500 better than the v1 I suppose only you can answer. The v1 was/is awesome, but the plus is feeling really good now that I've got the settings figured out.
-
@ahxe45
for what it's worth: I think my plus arrived in cruz mode, which is pretty comfortable. it does pushback at 13mph, but it's gentle; otherwise cruz feels pretty good to me both on and off pavement.
-
@CBR-954rr where are you at on this? Still dealing with Pushback @ 15 mph on Mission? I got my + last week and I am experiencing the same thing. Love the board but don't want to deal with pushback @ 15 mph. Thanks!
-
Ddakota4ce @markdjr 17 April 2017, 21:59 UTC
@markdjr it was easy to say. I truly am satisfied riding my V1, it doesn't leave me wanting any more of it at this point other than range. It it was more powerful, smoother, faster or quieter I am simply saying it would not be more fun or functional for me. Only thing I would ask for is more range.
Nice to have not need to have features--for me. Not an insult on + owners by any stretch. I also have a 2008 Sequoia that I feel the same way about. It might be some form of contentment in my advanced age.
I do have a buddy with a V2 I am going to try. Perhaps I will eat my words and change my tune.
@ahxe45 sounds like you and I may be of the same cloth to a degree. For me, the refinement doesn't seem like its worth $1500. Give me the refinement plus range, and then I bite. Money is not the object, value is. To @markdjr point, perhaps the power would help off road. It would have to be a lot more for me to care. There are simply things I know I cannot climb, and I pop off and run up the hills and carry on. For the most part, I can finesse over the minor stuff on the trails. It is a riot off road for me. It goes fast enough in that environment to be of significant danger to me--so that's fast enough for now :).
Plus I am building a Trampa Urban Carver e-skate right now, so my electric foot vehicle loyalties are not solely in the OneWheel camp. There are some damn fun others out there to explore, too. OneWheel is unique and fun, though, for sure!
-
TT-CAT 17 April 2017, 22:48 UTC
Honestly, the Plus version of the board doesn't feel like a revolutionary thing like with the first OneWheel simply because the V1 was first to come out and had nothing to compare it to, as well as the fact that there are somewhat small improvements (although good and noticeable) on the V2. Now that I have the Plus and can compare it to the V1, two things were a selling point to me, and I sold my because of them. First, and by far the most important to me, the full sensor coverage pad. This allows me to angle my front foot on the sensor pad with the toes slightly toward the nose of the board, just like I do when snowboarding, skateboarding, or wakeboarding. This is much more comfortable for me from a buinechanical standpoint, reduces discomfort especially on longer rides, and increases safety as well. I have had absolutely zero issue dismounting on the new Plus, just as I had no issue with that on the V1. Second, the increase in speed without the first sign of pushback at the lower speed the V1 would have. It's nice to have a little more leeway on speed before that occurs. The rest of the improvements were just icing on the cake such as the improved look with the side rails, the rounded edges of the footpads, and new darker wood used on the footpads (and the grip tape design), firmware, etc. So, it was worth it for me to switch, especially since I offset the cost enough by selling my V1 to justify the cost of the second board, the Plus. However, some people may not feel the same way, and that's okay as it's a subjective thing.

Hi everyone
should I buy new plus or v1
Thank you -
Ppoint5 18 April 2017, 19:51 UTC
Just got my plus and I have daily commuted on my v1 for over a year. First thing I did was put it in mission mode so I have no comment on the other shaping. Wow, it is SO much better than the v1 in my opinion. Much smoother, my feet feel much more planted, it is far more responsive, and it feels significantly faster. To me, better in every way. You guys who like the v1 better I am having a pretty hard time understanding, but to each their own. I have not tried it offroad, my commute consists of mostly cracked and broken Seattle sidewalks and streets.
-
@baron if you're going to have one OW, I'd suggest the +
-
Ddakota4ce @point5 19 April 2017, 17:50 UTC
@point5 Very few have claimed they like the V1 better. In my case, I like the V1 enough. Especially when a good used V1 can be had in the $850 range. Its a matter of relative value.
If it came to purchasing a $1200 V1 or a $1500 V2? No brainer, V2 all day.
-
Aahxe45 19 April 2017, 18:10 UTC
@dakota4ce unless you want the instant gratification of walking in the store and walking out with a V1 ha. But in all seriousness I will probably wait to upgrade until I can walk into a store and buy a + since I am happy with my V1 for now. If they do actually make the + footpads backwards compatible with the V1 like I have heard rumors about it would maybe not be worth it to me because the small sensor area is my biggest complaint with the original, besides battery life which the + sounds like it got worse on.
-
Ffruitygreen 19 April 2017, 19:42 UTC
Yep, we'll be keeping our v1s.
Got the plus on its way.The price difference between v1 and the Plus could be justifiably so, as it has enhanced features .
Been waiting for months to experience the Plus. About a month ago I decided it (price difference) weren't worth the wait. We have been having so much fun with the v1 I have been thinking I should buy more v1s.
I am just waiting to experience the Plus to see if it is or is not the board that we will massively purchase.
Key things that is priority for our group is range and availability. All other plus exclusive features are nice but not a priority.
-
@bcody5
Yeah, I need to contact FM about it. I just don't want to have to send my board back just yet. If they can't troubleshoot/fix it remotely I'll probably wait until my second board ships so I don't have to deal with downtime. -
Sspaz @markdjr 29 April 2017, 06:56 UTC
@markdjr Thanks for doing the research on this. I was getting annoyed with the elevated nose and having kickback way earlier than expected. POWheel definitely janks these settings up
-
I had forgotten about this thread and the fact that several folks have noted no pushback in mission mode.
I'm in the "pushback at 15mph" crowd in mission shaping. every time. it's gentle and doesn't generally bother me because i enjoy cruising at 12-15 mph. but if i try to go faster it definitely pushes back and raises the nose at 15mph.
Are some of you really not experiencing pushback in mission mode?
-
Wwr420 29 April 2017, 14:23 UTC
@iiikz - In mission I get no push back up to 20mph, I have not ridden in any other modes. The board is more or less level no matter how hard I push it(with in reason). At around 21 mph I feel like the board starts doing something, possibly trying to let me know to slow down, but it doesn't feel like pushback. More like the motors starting to cut out, not quite so drastic, but enough to make you say "oh, ok, I'll slow down"
-
Mmarkdjr @iiikz 29 April 2017, 14:25 UTC
@iiikz Are you getting 6 or 7 blinks when you put the board on its side and turn it on?
-
@markdjr 7 blinks.
Pushback at 15mph is gentle and controlled, but definitely there. Every time: cruising along, smooth acceleration; at ~15mph, pushback. Nose raises up and I can push through (my top speed is only in 19's), but it happens consistently at 15mph.
-
@iiikz I also get pushback at 15mph in mission.
-
So what kind of mileage are you guys getting? i'm getting about 5 miles or so on mission. For same routes my V1 would always get 7 miles.
** Edit ** i've gotten a few rides with 6.4 miles, but most are 4.9 or 5 miles. -
TT-CAT 29 April 2017, 17:27 UTC
In Mission shaping, I get pushback at 16mph every time, and have tested that looking at my Apple Watch each time. Whether the speed is accurate or not, I'm not sure since I haven't verified that on radar or any other method.
-
Have asked for a refund on my plus. The v1 shreds NYC cobblestones like a champ (hit 21.2mph today) but this plus can't handle them. FM has had it for two weeks and was unable to find an issue with the board. Basically what happens is the motor just cuts out and the tail drags on the ground. Going slow or fast. Viva la v1
-
No pushback here. 18 feels like a breeze. Something must be up.
-
@PowerWheel5000 If the motor were to cut out, the nose would hit the ground due to you having forward momentum. Sounds more like the motor is speeding up, which is what happens with pushback.

@timvdp sorry to hear that, hopefully she was doing something epic at the time
@groovyruvy I'm sure you are right along with the others who have suggested what is actually going on. The motor is not cutting out, but rather spinning up and causing the tail to slam down.
Was this same problem ever an issue wth the v1 that was eventually corrected by a firmware update? Unfortunately I fear the plus is only suitable for smooth conditions, contrary to some of the marketing videos
I was planing on getting the V2 since I love my V1 so much,I don't rely ride on the road, I mainly ride my OW on the beach it can be bumpy at time with foot print etc.
After reading your comment I'm having second though!
What should I do?
Steeve -
@steeve as an owner of both the original and plus, I'd say get the plus. I do a fair bit of offroading and I feel the plus destroys it no issues.
-
@steeve I haven't tried the plus on the beach, but have heard mixed reviews and I won't speculate.
If you truly love the v1, as much as I do, we owe it to FM to support their new generation of onewheel. While my plus is literally collecting dust, I hope a firmware upgrade will help with the issues I've experienced.
I was in the market for a second onewheel, which is why I picked up the plus, but now I am in the market for a second v1 in case my original has issues.

@PowerWheel5000 I'll trade my V1 for your V2!
-
Thanks @shattle - I'm keeping it as I have the extra year of warrantee from pre-ordering. Onewheel is one of my favorite things in life right now, curious to see what happens with software/firmware updates
-
Third run on the + today.
I'd only go back to V1 if the + is grounded or being serviced.
FM hit the ball out off the park.
Hope whatever minor issues we're reading about will be resolved soon. -
@sonny123 you got one!! Really glad to hear it's been good so far.
Riding around prospect park today was amazing, bombed some huge hills and discovered some trails. Haven't gotten to do much off-roading before today, it was awesome!
-
@PowerWheel5000
The main difference for me is that I mostly cruise at around 10-12 mph and often have to deal with nagging pushback.
None of that on the +. It just cruises as you go.
App. showed top speed of 15 mph and I'm not even speeding. -
6 miles compared to my 7 miles V1.
Range's never been an issue for me.
My typical ride is 4-5 miles 2-3 times daily. -
Jjefflynn 4 June 2017, 00:56 UTC
Here's my two cents on the pushback and tail dragging. At first I thought it had some crazy pushback compared to the V1, but then I tried my V1 again and it was exactly the same. I think I'm just not as used to it since I'm not constantly riding with pushback on the V2. I did however experience the tail drag really bad today when I took a rocky dirt road. My V1 has ridden that trail many times and it never dragged once. Today with the V2 i was actually scared to go at my normal comfortable pace on that trail because every time I hit a rock or hole the board would drop the back end and scare the crap out of me. Not sure if it is due to having more power or what, but there is definitely something different there.
-
@jefflynn You know it's possible pushback feels more pronounced on the plus because of the angled footpads?
-
I will keep my V1 as well. Love them both for different reasons.
