I've been hit a couple times now. Luckily I've flown well and landed well each time.

The worst was when the car actually stopped on TOP of the damned board, with a wheel up in the air. Just told them 'fuck it' and back off my board.

They did. I rode it home. Basically indestructible - though FM did have to eventually replace both rails because they were bent to shit.

@thegreck Oh wow! I'm so sorry this happened, but glad you are doing relatively well considering. This too is my biggest fear, and I have had so very close calls. My closest call, where I did a Matrix maneuver at the last second to avoid being hit, was a very similar situation. It was a situation where a car in the far lane was trying to turn between traffic in the near lane. I never considered a car would be making that turn since there was no room to do so, but they gunned it in between two cars and narrowly missed me. I think this is the most dangerous situation as they are focused on when to cut between on coming traffic rather than pedestrians etc. I do feel much more nimble on the OW and feel like I am more likely to get hit while riding my Evolve than the Onewheel.
Anyways this isn't about me. I just wanted to let you know I am thinking about you and hope you are all better and riding soon and to warn others about that dangerous situation.

@ahxe45 he let us know that indeed the board works! The only issue was the Silver Handle got damaged, but that's OK because Greg makes them and he's going to repair it.

@ahxe45 Yes, if you scroll up you'll see @MichaelW posted a photo of the what he thought was the only damage to the board, which was just a scraped footpad.

But the fender got pretty ground up too. He said he thought that was scraped up because it was old, but I had only just put it on recently, and had never rolled it with that fender on.

So the FM fender actually made it through a car wreck without breaking. And this was their OG fender, before they toughened it up.

Another interesting thing to think about the one wheel potentially dampening the impact of the accident is the fact you were higher off the ground then if you are walking. Being a little higher up and on less stable ground of the board might have allowed you to be scooped up on to the hood. Being lower and walking maybe you would have been hit harder or even run over

@byromie Yes, I thought of that as well! And I think the combination of that and the fact that the new VW Bugs are basically just a slope made it basically a windshield hit. I got scooped off my board and then hit the windshield, which gave way on impact.

I think the worst of it was when he hit the brakes and I slid off the hood onto the pavement. That's when all the damage happened.

@thegreck @Byromie so if you're gonna get hit by a car, you might as well be on a OW as that boosts you up off the ground; and it better be a VW with that ergonomically designed hood. With my luck it'll be a Mack Truck and it won't matter what I'm riding!
