How do you film yourself? - A selfie stick?

I bought a cheap actioncam and a selfiestick to see if I would like to film riding the OW.
The filming part is nice, but now it's lying on my desk for weeks already waiting to be put on PC and to be edited...

The issue I'm seeing with how ppl are filming themselves is that they are focusing on the lower-half of the bodies.

No one outside a diehard OneWheel rider is gonna be interested in watching this footage.

The limitation is maybe the selfie stick and holding it up high, far enough away to get the whole rider in the frame while keeping the lens pointed in the right direction. That's a lot to juggle while also riding the the OneWheel.

One solution would be the Karma drone set-up with the GoPro mounted on it. A lot of expense for a short shoot. Maybe rent one?

Another, which I have done is: you need 3 guys and a pick-up truck. Driver, a guy in the bed with the camera and the rider. Everyone has to know what they are doing, so you probably need to do this a couple of times to work out the kinks. I did this and ended shooting into the sun, so the picture was shadowy. Planning on doing another shoot. Also it's illegal to have a passenger in the bed of a pick-up truck so you could get stopped by the police.

@yojimbo for me it's not so much that I only want to show the lower 1/2 of my body, but it's the limitation of the length of the selfie stick and the viewing angle of the camera (I use a GoPro4). I'm kind of reluctant to use a longer stick because I'm usually hauling *ss and if it was any longer I'd either whack it on something or dig it into the ground (have already done both with my current standard length stick). I have found that switching to 'wide' angle helps to get more of the upper body in the frame, but I just can't get the whole body in there.

@yojimbo I agree with @groovyruvy ... it's a limitation of using a selfie-stick to film yourself without actually getting the stick in the shot. The OP was asking what we use to shoot ourselves, so that's what we're responding to., but I do agree with you that videos are better when you can see the entire person, and all this takes is to have another person with you so you can hand the gimbal back and forth and shoot each other. The videos I've shot at meetups where I've done this have turned out pretty good.

But sometimes you're by yourself and left your drone at home.

Also a great point. Takes a bit more time to do this, but it's worth it. Multiple angles makes videos more fun to watch.

@fabuz I know nothing about drones, just throwing karma out there cause I have a GoPro. Similar price points but it sounds like you like djmavic way more.

The Osmo Mobile with a stick is a great combo for filming the OW because of the tracking. You can draw a frame around the wheel or the lights, and the gimbal will keep the camera pointing in the right direction however you move it. Adding a wide angle to the phone also helps.

There is also a small tripod that you can mount the stick onto. You can put the OW in the frame, draw a tracking box around the wheel, and then when you ride past it will pan to follow you.

@ianjohnson That's a rad feature! Getting the shot while riding is tough sometimes with the GoPro, since you're kinda flying blind.

Drones don't work too well on city streets. A selfie stick with a GP Hero is the best bet IMO. Light and simple. Also use OW and Helmet-mounted. Fun to mix it up.

My setup is the osmo mobile with extension pole and tripod. Then I built a mount to use a gopro with the osmo mobile. It's relatively lightweight, but still to heavy to do anything over your head.
