@HanahsDax Nice, looks fun, and I don't think I would try any of that. Probably break a hip or something.
Must say, excellent choice in the soundtrack. -
A
New Red Hearse album is a dope floating album. Highly recommended.
-

Nice song. Love that Ozzy bit. For a guy that can't form a coherent sentence, he sounds as good as ever.

@Sponge315
My favorite music to ride to would be playlists containing Radiohead, Life in 24 Frames & Deftones. -
M
@a_onekatie I love Float On as the officially unofficial OW anthem- second your vote.
My far ranging musical pics of the moment
—-Angry, aggressive- DK’s, Bad Brains, X, Bad Religion, Social D
—-Relaxing, chill- Miles Davis
—-In between everyday stuff- lotta Shakey Graves and Colter Wall lately (not the ‘floatiest’ artists...but good stuff)For me the old go-to punk requires a helmet and wrist guards. Listening to Miles while slowly carving a
smooth familiar street at night is sublime, and I leave the safety stuff at the house...That said, wear safety stuff. Float on
-
Aww man. Pour one out for Ric Ocasek and let’s all add some Cars to our mixes today.
-
Taste has been a little eclectic this week. Started off with Tool's 10,000 days, followed by Andrea Bocelli's Romantica, and finally Steve Winwood's Back in the High Life. There was a little Gin Wigmore tossed in every here and there. (If I was 30 years younger I could easily become quite obsessed with her)

When I was learning, I preferred techno. That gridlike orderliness appealed, for focus.
Now, I tend to prefer melodic alt-rock from my youth. The melodies seem to suit the curves. If there's a guy riding through your neighborhood belting out Stone Roses or early R.E.M. or Guided by Voices or Sonic Youth or Swervedriver...that's probably me.
(I also listen to newer stuff. Sometimes.)

I totally get the Techno vibe. This last week I was listening to "The Best of The Art of Noise". (old Techno)
It was a great match to my One Wheel style and state of mind. -
Abbey Road 2019 mix

Check out Griz - he's like funk meets dubstep, really high energy feel-good music.
-
G
@Xebulon Ever since he and Dotcom split up, it just hasn't been the same.
-
Started the week listening to some Dire Straits, wouldn't recommend them. Found that I was just pretty much ignoring them. Switched over to some CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival, for those of you under 50) Suzi Q, Run through the jungle, Fortunate son, All great riding songs.
Funny thing is that even if I don't have the plugs in I'm still carving to these songs. I may have damaged my riding synapses. -
After 13 years of waiting TOOL finally has a new album out. But Holy price gouging Batman. $109.99 for the CD this morning on amazon.
-
@Sponge315 It was listen for free on Prime for a minute...

No one is more surprised than me to report this, but: the new Pixies, Beneath the Eyrie, is surprisingly good. It's not Surfer Rosa or Doolittle, but it feels of a piece with Bossanova or Trompe le Monde.
Nothing on it is worse than "decent", and well over half of it is good-to-great, with two songs ("Catfish Kate" and "Daniel Boone") that I'd put among their best ever. Interesting production, interesting arrangements, Santiago's on fire and Lovering's drums are forward, and most importantly, catchy, slightly-weird Pixies songs.

Interesting review, thanks for that! I’ve been curious about that album, but I just personally feel like it’s not “The Pixies” without Kim Deal 😢
-
G
@a_onekatie I have long felt the same way ("No Kim, no deal!"), but Paz Lechantin seems to have made the remarkably ego-free decision to basically just do things like Kim would - her vocal harmonies and bass-playing here are very reminiscent. Like she thought, "what works best in the context of this band, and 'Pixies' songs?" and did that.
And yet, she's got writing or co-writing credits on several songs. So maybe she's also energizing Black Francis. Whatever it is, something's clicking here that hasn't clicked in a long time.
This is the first post-reunion record that that I haven't played two or three times, thought "meh", and then immediately forgotten about - this one's been stuck in my car, and my head, for days. It reminds you how great and important and influential they were, without necessarily trying to replicate exactly that. It does its own weird little dark thing (a lot of references to death and being "marked").
-
@Glyph awesome review! Okay, now I’m excited to check it out!

My friend apples made this. Anyone want to put it on a shirt?
-
I have been taking Louden Wainwright III a spin lately. While not everybodies cup of tea, I find is brutal honesty touching.
Listening to interviews of his son Rufus it is obvious that he was a difficult father, but at least he is up front about it. -

Been listening a lot to The Courtneys, a trio of Canadian gals on Flying Nun. Catchy as all get out with exuberant gang-shouted vocals, and they have that classic Flying Nun noisy-pop sound, where the instruments all chug forward together in unison relentlessly like a train.

They have beaches in Canada? Who knew?

I’ll usually just put one earphone in and play a rock station on Pandora, every now and then skipping a song here and there.

Revisited old ‘Spoon’. ‘Inside out’ is super floaty dreamy forget shit and ride type of stuff

For a Non aggressive float, I have been enjoying Tracy Chapman's New Beginnings.
I find myself contentedly dancing circles and 8's in the street in front of my house listening to her. -

Great old vid, thanks for that. Great old memories. In the early 80's I dated a girl from Athans GA, Spent time at the "40 Watt" watching REM and the B-52's back in the day.
But I must say, it sort of crushed a fantasy when Kate decided to just play on the girls team.
I know I didn't have a chance or anything but a guy could dream right? -
@McFloaty okay I’ve got some new recs!
This morning I heard the song You’re a Wolf by the band Sea Wolf; I was not familiar with them before and now I’m pretty curious to listen to more! Really great Cali/Surfer/Floaty vibes. Reminded me a bit of Band of Horses (another oldie but goodie).
When I want something a little fuzzier and more psychedelic, I really like Tame Impala. They have a new album that came out Friday that’s a little dancier, which I’m still getting used to it. But their previous two, Currents and Lonerism are both fantastic.
I’ve also been digging the Taylor Jensen track What I Do...
And the song Riding Solo by Hinds feels like my personal anthem, hahaha!

wait, Band of Horses is now old? oh crap.
-
@Franko lol sorry, I was just thinking they haven’t put anything new out in like 4-5 years. So I guess I should have said “older but gooder.”
-
@a_onekatie ok, that works. i like 'em!

Old school here. Have about 200 songs on my MP3 player (just got some aftershokz headphones so I can hear what's going on around me along with the music.)
30 minute ride on Sunday . . . went back through the playlist. Anyone get music whiplash from this selection of music that was playing in my head while I was riding?
Sunny - Bobby Helm
Gray Dog Blues - Jack Ferrell
Every time we touch - shattered reality
Good timin' - Jimmy Jones
Life's been good - (artist name doesn't show)
Silent Solders - Axe
Phantom of the opera - (artist name doesn't show)
Movin' out - Billy Joel
The Fever - Garth Brooks
I'm No stranger to the rain - Keith Whitley
I can't drive 55 - Sammy Hagar

HHanahsDax @a_onekatie 20 March 2020, 02:09 UTC
@a_onekatie Yes! Great idea, I was thinking of doing the same and my opening track is the exact same as yours. I then thought Good Charlotte’s “The Day That I Die” Neil Young’s “Rockin in the Free World” and “Hot Girl Bummer” by Blackbear. Didn’t give too much more thought after those four tracks. I did recently purchase Mother Love Bone’s self-titled album. I remember listening to the cassette tape when I was a kid.
-
@HanahsDax haha awesome! Good additions there, I’ll keep updating my list!

I used to have a car where I could plug in my mp3 player to the stereo. So some songs on it were for my kids and I haven't removed them. You should see my expression if I'm on the MC and "Harry Potter Puppet Pals and the Mysterious Ticking Noise" starts to play in my ears.
