Id imagine if you get a lock, you could put it through the frame of the Onewheel and be safe that way for small time intervals. Personally though I don't leave my Onewheel sit anywhere unless I can see it. Its just something that will disappear quickly if the right person sees it and wants it bad enough.

I don't leave this thing anywhere far enough away from me that if someone tried to pick it up, I couldn't run after them and tackle them Waterboy-style.

But then again, I have trust issues.

I too echo what everyone else is saying. Do not leave it far from reach. I live in a safe area but you never know. I am backing a project in indiegogo called iTraq and I plan on attaching it underneath one of the footpad (in case it ever gets stolen).

I haven't got in a situation where i'd lock it up and leave it yet, but if I did, I looked into one of these for the frame: http://www.amazon.com/Kryptonite-Standard-Bicycle-Transit-FlexFrame/dp/B005YPK9SY/ref=sr_1_6?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1437768456&sr=1-6
Though I'm also a paranoid person and know any of these locks can be cracked so I'm only delaying it if I leave it too long,

Lock it up?!? I bring my board in, order my drink, look for a seat with an outlet, and charge up!!!
I'm sure a chain through the frame is viable :)

Keys -check, wallet -check, phone -check, onewheel -check. Im good to go.

Says the guy who onewheels on the edge of the Grand Canyon! ^ hahhaha

I road to my neighborhood bar last night to meet friends. I just brought it in and stashed it under the table. Sure you get a look of "Wtf is that he's holding" but at this point of owning a onewheel, if you're not used to that, you must not be riding outside.

It's a great conversation starter wherever you go, so you might as well just take it with you....it's also the perfect escape vehicle for when you need to bail out.

I take mine in everywhere and anywhere. I usually ride it all the way in and sit with it. I am kind of like Ryan Gosling in Lars and the real girl. Only instead of a sex doll I have my OneWheel ;)

I have a few of these that I use when my OW is out of my sight. Like others, I generally try to bring it in with me most places. In the grocery store, it rides on the bottom shelf of the cart. In coffee shops and restaurants, it goes in for a charge.

Only time I leave it alone and unlocked is when I'm surfing. I literally roll to the beach with my leash already attached to my ankle. I stop, step off the board, and walk into the water (people are like WTF????). There isn't any public parking near my beach access, so it's only locals. Plus I have eyes on my OW the whole time.

    Standing athwart the technological zeitgeist.

I would not be comfortable leaving my board unattended even locked up. Maybe once they become more common and you are not the only one. And especially since production time still takes a while. I'd be more likely to risk it if I'd be able to replace it in several days if stolen. The size is condusive for taking it just about anywhere. My only issue is lugging it around without wheels to pull and the filthy factor. Seems like most people keep their boards cleaner than mine though. Definately if there was a form fitting bag it could go anywhere without question.

Just wanted to let everyone know that while you can loop a cable lock through the frame, a U-Lock works too! I just tested it out - here is a pic:

    CMeUzDSWcAAbAvX.jpg

Now I just have to work up the courage (and skill) to ride it out in the wild! Still working up to it...

I'm not leaving this thing out of sight! I also just keep it on the back of my car. You never know when you might see a cool spot to ride! I took it in to my work and the coffee shop. It's a great conversation piece!

    This works great:

    http://www.amazon.com/Kryptonite-Kryptolok-Standard-Bicycle-FlexFrame/dp/B005YPK8G2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1460847221&sr=8-5&keywords=bike+lock

And the wire is thick so it's hard for someone to steal it

I go bar hopping on mine along the beach. I have a cable style combination lock, which I coil around the side frame member. It does not get in the way, and is there when I need it. After the 4th or 5th stop, the combo may be a bit hard to remember... :)

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT get a cable lock. Those are far too easy to cut. I ride my OW to the coffee shop every day and put a heavy duty U-lock through the frame. Works great.

@jeffmccosker U locks are pretty good, they are worth the investment too. like 100 to protect a 1500 dollar posession

Problem is that I would have no where to store a "U-lock" style lock. I never leave it for more than an hour or so, and usually have it in sight. Any lock is defeatable, and I figure a cable lock is an adequate deterrent. I just wrap the cable around the frame side, and it is not in the way.

I picked up one of these TiGr mini titanium locks: http://www.amazon.com/TiGr-Lightweight-Titanium-Lock-Mounting/dp/B0155L1G9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465004014&sr=8-1&keywords=TIGR

It's as secure as a U-lock, but lighter in my backpack. And it fits easily through the Onewheel's rail. Seems like a pretty good solution.

@AdamDoubleG yes, the TiGr mini works great, and it is so light sometimes I even forget I have it in my backpack. Here is a picture of it (using a ladder for demonstration purposes--sorry, I didn't have a bike rack handy). https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjj45tmz0t0wdr3/2016-08-01 07.58.41.jpg?dl=0

    Check out

I will be getting mine the end of this month or beginning of next month when they ship out. They can even alert you of someone trying to break into your lock and alert you, so you can call the cops or go there ur self to stop the theft of your onewheel.

@AdamDoubleG, sorry for the delay. I was on vacation and far from my board. It may be too late to help you, but in case it isn't, or if anyone else is interested, here is a picture of the TiGr mini locking up my OneWheel. The best thing about this lock is the light weight, and I also like that you can carry it unlocked and lock it without a key, so you only need to get the key out once to unlock it. Did you get yours? How are you finding it?

Hi @amyt2205 - yes, I did buy one but I've not used it yet; when I've been out on the OW it's usually just been to ride around for fun so I haven't been anywhere I've had to leave it unattended (I took it to the supermarket a while ago but just stuck it in the trolley.
@thegreck - that's a shame about that Amazon review. I think all locks are defeatable if the thief is a pro though, the other reviews I read for it said it was pretty decent.
The difference between a bike and a OW is that people don't immediately know how to ride off with a stolen OW and it'd be pretty awkward to run away carrying it, so hopefully that works in our favour...

@AdamDoubleG This ^^ Whenever I think of someone stealing my OneWheel I can't imagine it would be very graceful unless they had a car very close. I will still probably get a lock just in case, but I wouldn't leave it out of my sight even locked up. This is a good thread though, lots of good suggestions.

@hustle Agreed. I don't think most thieves would be prepared for how heavy it is. Running with it would be very difficult, so you could pretty easily catch up to him. And they'd have no idea how to ride it, so they wouldn't be able to take off on it like bike thieves do.

So far I've been lucky (fingers crossed). I've left it locked up outside several restaurants while I eat, with no problems. This was in high-traffic areas where someone carrying bolt-cutters would certainly attract attention, and not for more than an hour or so. Also I'm sure @AdamDoubleG is right--no thieves probably know what the heck this thing is yet, much less what to do with one if they were able to get the lock off.
