Does anyone have any tips on getting more speed out of the OW? My cycle droid app shows that I top out at 12.9mph. I'm 168lbs which is not that much I think. I haven't experimented with pushing past the push back yet because I'm not wearing elbow pads or wrist guards or knee pads, just a helmet. I'm sure that when I get more pads I will experiment more.

The speed apps are not accurate.
I know from when I tried to measure speed on my electric skateboard.

You could well be topping 15mph and not knowing it.

I'm not comfortable with too much speed on the OW.
My guess is I'm not going over 9mph.

    Pushing beyond push-back is dangerous.
    Better be safe.. ;)

So you guys that are doing 20mph, are you tracking your speed with the OW app or a downloaded app? And is there a trick to getting that fast or is my board just programmed differently

    @donny-h
What mode are you riding in? Sounds like classic if you're only hitting 12.9 mph. I've tested the ski tracks app in my car and the speedometer is pretty accurate. I usually top out at 19-20 mph, but you have to flirt in that zone beyond the pushback to get that fast. Stay centered...get some.

Is the consensus that the cycle/ski apps using gps are accurate?
    If so 20.21mph
I think I'll try it in the car and test accuracy also.

The app I am using is Cycle Meter. Not sure if it makes a difference that it is the free version but when driving and comparing it my cars speedo it's up to 4-5mph off. When driving at a consistent speed of 19mph it was reading 14-15mph in the app. Quickly accelerating to about 26-27mph registered about 20mph on the app.
I'll try the ski app and see if it's better.
Btw car is a 2016 with stock wheels and tires and digital speedo so I imagine it would be pretty accurate. Someone else was reading me the speeds from the app.

@wr420 you are wrong, Speedo in the car are rarely accurate, they are always a bit optimistic, how much depends of the brand.

No, I'm definitely not in classic. I switched to extreme right out of the box.I will try some different apps but I need more speed regardless. Maybe I will learn to push the limits of the pushback.

@tartopom - well I guess that's good news cause that puts me at about 24mph last night lol
I still want to try a few other gps apps just in case the cycle app I have is not correct. Just seems too fast.

I'm honestly baffled by the speeds you guys are achieving. Perhaps it's because I have one of the first boards or because I went over the front before there was pushback and can't convince myself overcoming pushback is wise. I'm only getting 14 mph on flat pavement on a good day. I weigh 165.

@lynnpreston don't worry, I don't go over 14mph using the speed recorded by the onewheel itself :) I'm trying to fight the pushback but can't achieve speed like others. and my wheel is just 3 weeks old ;)

I rarely go past push back any more, every once in awhile I'll push past push back on a hill or something but only for a second or two.. I'm not cruising around long distances at those higher speeds, just a quick burst..

Just looking at those graphs, I'd say they're not actually hitting the reported max speeds. Speed via gps is notorious for momentary "blips" due to inaccuracies. If it's slightly off with your position at one point and slightly off in the opposite direction on the next position it can make it seem like you traveled much faster than you actually did. My garmin on my motorcycle often tells me my max speed was over 100mph on days when I know I didn't go that fast.

On both of those graphs you see a fair bit of dip right before the reported max speed. It seems far more likely it recorded a position "behind" where you were, causing the dip, and then either recorded a better position next or even a position "ahead" for the next one. The graph seems to indicate that it's really staying below 15mph, as expected.

    My $0.02 ...

My max speeds(I've got several over 15mph) are always me going downhill..I seem to go very fast then freak out as the graph shows and that's how it feels..😂

@nautiboy I totally agree with you. I have questioned the accuracy of GPS(as implemented in these apps) since I first used one of these style apps. I originally posted in the feature request section asking to update the ow app to record top speed because of 1. My doubts as to the accuracy of these gps apps and 2. My eyes can't get a look at the speed in the ow app while at high speed but no one seemed interested. If you look at the graph it only goes to around 17mph so how could I be going to 23mph? There are also other discrepancies in the splits as they also list a top speed and none say 23mph, but they do say 19mph. So ya, pretty much useless.

I've been trying different apps to check speed and none of them have been accurate. they say that my top speed is 34 and crazy crap like that. I mostly just want really fast bursts of speed for the rush of accelerating out of the sharp turns while shredding. The only time that I want sustained high speed is when I am riding with a group of friends that are biking somewhere.

@donny-h suggest you try out my app, I added a top speed that gets the speed directly off the OW (so none of this fuzzy gps speed calculations)

Gps speed apps/navigation use gps signals, meaning your phone needs unobstructed view of the sky. The more gps satellite signals you lock onto the more accurate it is, keeping that in mind you can place your phone accordingly, ie not inside your pocket..

@kwatts Thanks again for the app! I tried it out on a short ride around the neighborhood and it seems like in the first leg of the trip the app crashed or something as it was not running when I stopped and there was no top speed recorded. I decided not to worry about it, but later I used the app to monitor the battery when I found an outlet to charge from. I didn't think about it but the app was left on and when I got home it had recorded my speed on the way home! Victory!!
    thanks again!

@Tartopom it should, but i'll retest --- also @wr420 glad it worked, i'm thinking through adding top speed next to the odometer at the top (any UI suggestions etc let me know, I'm definitely weak on it). Also noticed the top pad sensors are expanded a bit on your screenshot, it was supposed to line up with the battery/speed boxes - will look into it.

@kwatts I don't know the model of the device off hand - it was a freebee when doing an upgrade on another devise, but its not a phone and its a little smaller than a ipad mini so unless speed/batt areas are set to scale to whatever the screen size of the devices is, it just may be the odd size of my device causing the prob.
Also what determines a trip for "trip top speed"? or better yet, what does the app/ow consider a trip? Powered on til its powered off? Full charge to full charge? Just curious so I don't accidentally loose my top speed before I check it.
Great idea to put trip top speed up top.
    Thanks Again

@kwatts when the one wheel gets disconnected for whatever reason( it seems to lose it when running in the background for me). The app shows the sensor and rider as green even though it lost connectivity or whatever the last info was. Think you need a refresh if the connection is lost.

The app said I had 54% battery left and I decided to take a detour. After a few minutes did a double check and noticed it was the same and I had lost connectivity. When I reconnected it was updated to 10%. Luckily I saw it early so I didn't have to carry it home..lol..

@kwatts I think I was one update late, with the last one, it's ok. I noticed another glitch, when you change mode using the mode icon, it's working, but the mode number in the list of information is not updated until you disconnect and reconnect the board. definitely need a refresh of the info after changing mode with the app icon :)

@parrothd Hmm - I see what your saying. I'll look into doing something when it disconnects (keeping a few stats but clearing out the rest). I also noticed it disconnects sometimes when the screen is off, will look into that. Also a long vibrate option if it disconnects might be helpful.

I'm digging the custom lights after finding the settings on the board (and in my last update). Messing around with having both red/white on and having both front/back white really lights up the place.

@wr420 I currently am storing the top speed for the duration that the app is up and running. If you stop/restart it loses the top speed. If people really like the top speed feature I'll add an option to store/persist it (or/and add a trip topspeed and lifetime top speed). Although lifetime would be different the lifetime miles setting, which is pulled and stored on the OW board so would have to call it something else...

@kwatts tried new release last night :-) custom light is quite fun, I'm sure you could go further with blinking for example.
Also I still need to disconnect and scan again to refresh the mode of the onewheel otherwise it is not accurate.
Oh and since last update the screen is not enough big to display all the information and I can't scroll down... any hints?
Keep up the good job @kwatts , your app is already better than the official one :-)

@Tartopom Ahh, I'll scale down the fonts or make font size a setting.

The refresh/accuracy stats - I can have them blanked out unless the OW is connected. I kind of liked having them persist to look at after the ride, maybe I'll add a "last ride" for a few stats (total distance, top speed, etc)

Glad your digging the lights. I'll add a few presets, blinking, waves... any others let me know
