@1woman1wheel You've probably already seen this, but I think you're better off doing this than riding around on one of those monstrosities that look like a panel from a room on a Star Trek set with a giant rollerblade wheel stuck through it:

Ooooooooh thanks @thegreck I hadn't seen that! I love that the tape comes in more than one color

Yea do not get the haloboard. It looks cheaply built and doesnt have offroad capabilities. Stick with the OW. I bought mine without trying one. Went to the shop, took a look and held it, said Ill take it
-
@1woman1wheel Get the Onewheel!! End of Story. We all agree I Promise.
-
TTartopom @1woman1wheel 2 June 2016, 08:02 UTC
@1woman1wheel all these haloboard, or other fuc*board are all based on the same low cost chinese models you can find for 300$ on aliexpress, this is really far from the onewheel in term of smooth ride, off road capabilities and performance in the whole. the closest to the onewheel would be the Trotter, but once again, one of my friend have it and it's far away from the OW...only good thing with this thing is the range that is double of the onewheel. But for the rest, just forget it.

SSantoki @1woman1wheel 2 June 2016, 17:26 UTC
@1woman1wheel Absolutely no comparison. OneWheel is a beast. Pull the trigger and get one! Do it.
-
OK guys. I'm going to Vermont on Monday (my nearest retailer) to take a OW out for a test drive. Squee!
-
@1woman1wheel you're wasting precious riding time! Go ahead to Vermont for the test drive, but put your order in today! I researched for over a year, never got the benefit of a test drive, and my only regret is that I didn't order sooner. Do it!
-
@jordo If I like it, I'll buy it from the retailer up there. Instant gratification
-
I love it! You'll want to ride it home...
-
Drink the kool-aid.
-
@jordo That's a lot of charge stops, and I don't think they have power outlets in cow fields...
-
They are really fun. I own a Boosted board and recently got a OW. After riding the OW for about a week and really starting to get the turning and carving down I hardly want to ride the boosted anymore lol.
-
I am pretty sure I already personally assured you, you would love it. People in high places of power have done far bigger things based on less.!! :)

Just need to bring power with you:
I throw it in a backpack with the charger for longer rides. Works great. But probably not enough for VT->RI :-)

Kkbman 3 June 2016, 23:41 UTC
Onewheel is such it's own thing I don't see the logic in comparison.
-
Kkbman 3 June 2016, 23:42 UTC
It's not an electric skateboard and it's not fucking Chinese. Just stop
-
@nautiboy good to know that exists, if not for my ride home than at least for future longer rides. It doesn't have to get quite as far as RI, just Boston, but still
-
Onewheel has the best overall capabilities.. the tire allows you to cruise just about any road condition.. I wouldn't even consider another board . Love my Onewheel to death and not because I have a financial interest in the company as someone else once said to me.. I truly love this machine.. I own many toys and the OW is one of the coolest hands down!!
-
@njcustom +1 on that one.
My OW gets the most time these days.
-
Hey @1woman1wheel , Monday has come and gone, did you get your test drive?
-
Thanks for asking @jordo! I did - I played hooky from work yesterday and drove up to Vermont for a ride! I'm uh... gonna need some practice... but I'm gonna take the plunge!
-
Sounds like my first ride, could barely get around the parking lot haha. Don't worry though, once you get the hang of it, riding becomes a truly awesome experience.
-
I have videos... I'll share 'em once I'm off deadline at work... there's a great one where I slowly just veer into a post...
-
Ta da! Best supporting role goes to that post... Lol
-
@1woman1wheel See we all told you, you would love it..... You Loved it. Now soon you will have one of your own.
-
@1woman1wheel Looks great! You'll love riding it, and I'm pretty sure you won't bump into any more poles!
-
@1woman1wheel nice edit! Good to see your first ride! I'll bring you some tips by PM asap! ;)

I honestly think the best place to learn is on pavement. I know it is less forgiving than gravel or grass but you have so much more control. On grass or gravel you have the tire slip that makes it harder.
-
Thanks everyone! Can I just say I love the support and positive community going on in these forums? <3
-
@Aswellie
Agreed. Gravel and grass is a next level.
Pavement is the way to go for a newbie.
Take your time with the learning curve and go slow. It comes gradually.
Practice by a railing for mount and dismount, then do a circle and dismount. A parking lot is a good place to practice.
No one says you have to do tricks, run on all kind of terrain and speed if you have OW.
This thing can be enjoyed just going slow and easy..

@1woman1wheel , smooth ground under short grass should be just great to learn on. I suggest starting in Extreme and watch your top speed. Clasic seemed way to slow and less responsive, basically harder to start rolling. I have traveled on rough ground and gravel along with dirt, concrete and artificial turf, each is unique just try to ride relaxed. Have fun!
-
@1woman1wheel Not all lawn surfaces are created equal. If you can find some grass that has been rolled, like a soccer field or a park that they flood in the winter as an ice rink, that might work pretty well for you. I met some rando at my towns newish soccer fields to let him try out my OW and he did fine. Golf courses are also wonderful if you can manage to find a spot on one where you won't get chased off right away.
Good luck!
-
@sonny123
I am at the point where pavement is too boring, I need to bounce. Grass is where carving gets fun and exciting. Grass feels the most wave / pow pow experience thus far for me. I like grassy hills and dirt bike trails.
-
@Seekwence
Yep, that's the beauty about OW. It's so versatile.
From smooth cruising, to all terrain to beach riding and more. :)
-
@Seekwence A town near me prides itself on its miles and miles of bike and running trails that I drive over just to ride on. Most of them are covered in a really fine, almost sandy gravel that has just enough give to make for the best surface I've found so far to get that carvey feeling. Slightly wet grass is also good. I also like double-track or gravel roads that aren't well maintained enough to get that slight crown in the center between wheel ruts; doing S-turns over and across that is pretty satisfying, sort of like "crossing the wake" if you've ever wakeboarded.

@1woman1wheel sweet! Don't be afraid to stand tall a little.
I liked grass for the first couple days just to feel out the motor and push it more than I was capable. But my spot was pretty choice, with grass(nice and smooth and shirt) to pavement transition with ease.
Have fun!
-
@1woman1wheel See if you can find a soccer field to practice on. They are usually very flat and easier than most grass fields. Agree with others though, pavement is the easiest overall.
-
GUYYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSSS @Code-ster is shipping my OneWheel TODAY!!! I can't wait to play with it. I was so excited I couldn't even sleep last night lol
-
C
@1woman1wheel Yes as difficult as it is to part with the Onewheel, it won't be my last Onewheel. It's most definitely a temporary thing lol. When I saw the video of your first ride and how much fun you were having it sealed it for me. You're going to love this thing!
-
@Code-ster I will name it after you.
-
C
@1woman1wheel Hahaha yes!
-
@Code-ster For free? Did you score a free OW?
-
D
i think the best thing the OW has going for it is that as technology improves it will benefit the most
i wish my OW had a slightly higher top speed, longer range, lower wieght and a lower pricetag
all of this will come to pass
powered longboards are already light, fast, and high range which makes them very desireable: but they don't ride like the OW
OW version 2.0 will obliterate the competition, and i for one will be happy to buy it.

Has anyone tried the Leif e snowboard. Looks like fun. But OW looks better for rough terrain. Would like to hear others experience with Leif board
-
Anyone seen one of the DANDAN D1 boards
http://www.terapeak.com/worth/dandan-d1-one-wheel-electric-skateboard-with-app-control-samsung-battery-2016/351731663947/
Looks interesting, but next to nothing online.
-
I
@1woman1wheel I def don't think u can take it off road. I looked at it as well but i got the feeling it was chinese garbage. Where the one wheel looks more like a tank. plastic vs aluminum
-
@MrCamel
Looks like a pretty piece of junk to me.
-
@MrCamel I've started to notice a few other products going with the large tire since I bought my OW 2 months ago. If I ever get the chance, I'd be interested to compare/contrast. I have zero regrets over my purchase of the OW... although, I bet users of that thing you posted don't get asked, "did you make that?" quite as often!

I certainly hope that future motion takes notice of the form improvements presented by all these knockoffs showing up. The more rounded front and rear on this D1 board is a step in the right direction for the safety of those around, which I think should be completely rounded and with bumpers there to boot in order to do the least damage possible in the inevitable collisions with pets and people that will start showing up more and more as more of the onewheels make it on the road. And the rounded side edge is a big improvement as well as people get shin and ankle cuts from the sharp edge of the current onewheel when it tips over during the beginner two footed dismounts. Tire treads as well might be good to prevent those embarrassing low speed falls where the vega wheel just spins when it encounters those mini curbs or clumps of wet grass.
-
@SeaP90d I let two friends try mine out yesterday and my buddies gf's dismounts had a couple close calls with a shin hit so I can attest to that. The lifting of the heel to disconnect from the sensor is a tough concept to grasp when you're not comfortable even riding the thing yet.
