GoPro tips?
-
Greetings Friends
I'm about to go and buy the Basic GoPro Hero and would like to know what if any tips could be provided to help me in the video making process?
-
@Dark_Knight Hey buddy dependent on What budget you have to throw at accessories then I can reccomend one of these http://m.tomtop.com/cameras-photo-accessories/dslr-video-supports-rigs/steadycams/p_82127.html?currency=GBP&lang=en&aid=gplagb&gclid=CO-ny4ut080CFUefGwodi_EGXg I've used it a lot and used it on this particular film https://vimeo.com/161278607

@Dark_Knight Yep, I second what @Jimmers75 said. I highly recommend the Feiyu G4 gimbal as well. It makes a HUGE difference in the quality. I used it for this video:

I agree with @thegreck and @Jimmers75 and the Feiyu G4 is Great.

@Jimmers75 will that work with the hero? it says hero 3 so are they all interchangeable?
-
You can do that or you can smooth it out in post, if you have the right software, you loose footage from the edges... But, it looks great. :)

@Aaron-Broward-FL I'm a professional motion graphics designer and use Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro on a daily basis, so I'm very familiar with software stabilization. I can assure you the result you get using software to stabilize footage doesn't come close to a gimbal.
Most of the time you end up with very weird movement and warping of the background, due to the fact that it's extremely difficult (usually impossible) to remove the parallax between subject and background that occurs when a camera isn't held steady during shooting. And the smooth pans you get from a gimbal aren't going to be possible with software.
Plus, the time you'd spend stabilizing all of your footage, vs having it pre-stabilized, makes a gimbal worth the money to me.

Not sure about this... I'd never heard of a HERO that wasn't 3 or 4.
-
@thegreck agreed, but if you pirate the software, free vs 300$ is worth it. If your just making a couple of videos for the forum. If I'm producing professional stuff, that's a different story. :)
I got my copy from a friend so, my version was free. :) -
@Aaron-Broward-FL That's probably true. My work pays for my Adobe Creative Cloud license, but I paid for the $350 gimbal, and really all I use it for is the fun of making Onewheel videos for myself and the guys I ride with.

I went with a 4K Sony action cam as it stabilizes video better than the GoPro. I am happy with the results so far. It was also a lower cost at Best Buy.

Consider the session or Polaroids cube because they are a lot easier to mount to the side of a onewheel.... You can get some really sick shots.
-
@thegreck it's all relative... If I were making the cash I was pre- 2007 financial crash, I'd have gotten the gimble no thought about it :)
-
ok so here is my first go pro video... i know it needs some edits... after looking at it i could have cut some parts and added others but it's all good since this is the first of hopefully many to come. please tell me what you think.

@Dark_Knight Looks good for your first time filming and editing all of that comes with practice.
