    A Former User @eish 5 November 2015, 17:22 UTC

@eish I don't have my board yet so I am not sure how it handles water but once I get it I will test it out and let you know.

      Reply Quote 0 1 Reply
  • Polle @eish 5 November 2015, 19:21 UTC

@eish don't think water goes on the deck as the fender seems to have a small 'ridge' (not sure if correct) that goes over the edge of the deck. (According to these pictures, as I'm waiting for mine to arrive)

Edit: I did look better and see that I was wrong :-)

@BadWolf The line has phosphorus in it and has a small electrical current which goes around the phosphorus, and makes it glow. It's really inexpensive!

@J-Glide Nice work! Thanks for doing this video. I was wondering how you swung this. My initial thought was to mount the controller under the front pad to maybe reduce the amount of water/grime that gets to it from the wheel...but that means running the wire under the front sensor pad and not sure if that would affect anything. Any thoughts?

    J-Glide @SC720 31 December 2015, 00:13 UTC

@SC720 I'm not sure there would be room for it there. Since the wire and controller have a simple wire clip to undo, you can just unplug it, and put it in your pocket when you are going to hit some wet stuff. Maybe attach the controller with Velcro so its easily removed. The wire shouldn't be hurt by water.

Just curious. Thanks for the video!

While I wait for the vinyl wrap to arrive I decided to use a can of plasti-dip I had on my onewheel.
Not the cleanest taping job, the Duct tape stuck to the dip in places, but came out okay.

@OneDream I'm gonna do it to mine, too. Probably tonight. I have all the bright blue aluminum wrapped in matte black already, and I think the wood is the part that makes everyone think it's "homemade." The all matte black thing might eliminate that because it looks a lot more industrial... and just really fucking cool!

@badcheese The fender is toward me when I carry it by the handle on the deck, too, so that hasn't been an issue... but does this solution make it easier to carry? Seems like it might.

@thegreck: Yes, this keeps it from hitting stairs (I walk up and down a lot of stairs every day) and makes it a bit easier to walk on flat ground too, as it's not bumping against the side of my knee as I walk.

@badcheese Awesome... I carry it on a lot of stairs too, and it's a pain having to try and hold it away from my body as I walk. I might give this a shot.

Anyone know if there's any electronics or wiring in that part of the frame that would keep me from being able to screw right into it?

@thegreck It looks to me like the wiring harness runs through the side rail, which is why I used a clamp instead. You could probably tap some coarse threads into it and use a short screw.

Thinking about what I should do to mine while I wait for it to come...

Part of me kind of wants to use truck bed liner around the frame. Or if not the whole frame, at least underneath and just a bit on the corner edges.

Anybody try? I've never used the hand painted bed liner so a bit iffy on the quality. I'm sure it's fine

Magnetically attached tire pump. I do usually have pockets but that's where I want it. It hasn't fallen off yet. We all know the OW likes to roll on its side like a silly pet in the sunshine.. this position is just clear of contacting level ground in event of rollover. Also neodymium magnets are super strong. The front magnet doesn't even touch the rail because of the rubber gasket I could make the rear one do the same as well with virtually no hard scuffing of the rail.
So far I have not noticed any interference from the magnet and tech folks I asked say it should not .!

I added a treaded tire about 90 miles ago https://archive.owforum.co.uk/topic/6294/hoosier-treaded-tire-review/22

Just got done with a 2 week project giving my OW a complete performance overhaul, deep concave footpads made of multi-colored wood, aluminum foot stops to keep my feet from bouncing off in rough terrain, and a 3 piece fender with a removable center. Post with details and pics coming someday..maybe

This is my first mod (and post). I designed a wider foot pad and added Vicious grip tape. (Thanks for the post about using the adhesive back so the sensor doesn't stick to the grip tape!) I wrapped the frame in vinyl matte black. I also added 1/8" neoprene adhesive sheet under the wood deck. (My thinking was this would help seal the internals, add shock absorbency and maybe keep the battery warm during those cold night rides.)

@braswell Thanks!! Yes same hole locations and screws. I used 12" x 12" craft plywood sheets from the hardware store - it doesn't say the type of wood - looks like the original wood. Easy to work with - just cut, drilled, countersunk holes, sanded and sprayed on clear polyurethane. It was a hair thinner than the original wood so it worked well with the neoprene under it.

@No It's hard to say. It might just be psychological, it's only 1/8" thick - but maybe a bit smoother ride. Originally I didn't like the fact I could see a gap between the top of the bumpers and the bottom of the stock deck and wanted to seal it.

@enjoi408 Thanks! Great point! - and it's only $3 for a new sheet of wood. The LEDs strip lights are waterproof and battery powered. It's on Amazon, I got the 1M length. I used more adhesive neoprene sheets to hide any wires. I mounted the battery with 3M outdoor? double sided foam tape - very strong. It's fun to ride at night, just want to make sure cars see me.

I've seen where a few people have added a surfboard kickplate to the back deck of their Onewheel, and it seemed like a great idea and I really liked the way it looked, so I had to try it.

I love it! It really gives you a lot of additional control, especially when turning/carving, and it's great to always know where your back foot is without having to look.

After grinding though the edges the wider wood footpads like cardboard, I decided to replace them with 1/4" acrylic footpads. I figure bumpers and fenders are plastic - they're holding up much better. Also added 1/8" adhesive neoprene directly under the Vicious grip tape, making it more comfy and grippy - no issues with the sensor.
However, the best mod is the Hoosier (d30A) treaded tire! (I got a de-beading tool and mounted the tire myself.) It's even more fun to ride! I was riding last night with a big smile on my face. It's so responsive and as pointed out more playful and agile. I was doing slalom runs between the little cracks in the pavement. Props to @No, @Earthpilot and @cr4p for their tire experiments, and @njcustom and @sonny123 posts on removing the wheel / tire. The tire looks so cool I don't want to cover it up with the fender.

Things to do waiting for good weather and the -o-+. I will be changing the Vega on that one too.

@Earthpilot I did sand the bottom of the acrylic so it's frosted. I was going to add LED strip lights where the fender meets the plates. You can see a notch in the photo. I actually have some el wire but it wasn't bright enough to make the plates glow. Might try it later, I just like the look without the fender for now.

Did you remove it ? You just stuck the foam over the existing pads ?
How does the OW sensor work? weight? or somehower in a different way?

I live in Germany and am slightly relutant Tuning my OW - since if something goes south.... I do not have a cheap/quick

@Earthpilot You got me thinking about adding a rear kickplate. I decided to use polystyrene and a foam cutter. It's light but strong, in the photo you can see I ran it over with my SUV. It's easy to test different shapes and angles. I just covered the sides with vinyl tape and secured it to the acrylic deck with double-sided carpet tape and under the neoprene / grip tape. Works great so far.

    @FutureBoy and @Earthpilot

    1. FB, love the footpads design.
    2. Saw the discussion on sort of anti fatiguing the design a bit. It's something that i think about all Time. So, aside what i have done with my shoes, i think those surfboard kickpads provide a mild impact reduction. It may not be obvious to the average rider, but especially on long rides, it reduces. The repeaded microvibrations are what causes the stress and fatigue.
testing right over the stock grip tape.. no problem taking it of a few weeks take as grippy as ever. However this ideas led me back to a material i worked with before.

    Anti-fatigue mat https://www.amazon.com/Anti-Fatigue-Ergonomically-Engineered-Non-Toxic-Waterproof/dp/B01B868D1M/ref=sr_1_6?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1489232282&sr=1-6&keywords=anti-fatigue+mat

I have been wanting to get a hold of a Mat, cut it up use it as a base and slap the grip tape on that and see how it goes. I have noticed that even standing in the wood shop, that stuff is amazing at how wel it can keep you comfortably standing in 1 place..
and 4 i can't wait to get my plus and put the treaded tire on it.:)

@Aaron-Broward-FL Yes! I actually had that same exact mat in mind to try. My feet get numb after riding a while. I even put special shoe insoles to see if that would help. V3 should have a mini shock absorber, like on mountain bikes, where the axle meets the frame - how cool would that be.

@FutureBoy if you want to take out the shock.... Get springblade shoes. Especially on long trips it takes the minishock out pretty well, I also recomend dr. Scholl gel inserts. I ride almost always with springblades though. Here is a video. https://youtu.be/a_oZr_FVBsc

@ashewheeler Wauw that is great. I would love to buy your custom pads. Would it be possible to develop a version that you can clip on the current frame and pads? So you don't need the sensor for your full replacement solution. Just keep the original pads and clip on a frame around the onewheel. I would expect that you would get a lot of orders from the forum members. Just as @njcustom and his great fenders.

@sonny123 Bit of snow, slush, and salt here but commuted anyway. Stayed off the OW yesterday because I've found that the deeper snow seems to pack under the non-sensor/battery end pad and essentially freezes it. I believe it may be the cause of complete shutdowns, lifetime odo resets, and otherwise funky behavior. Have you tried riding on a frozen lake? It's amazing the OW can do it if you're very careful with speed and direction changes. Like always, momentum is your friend.

Thanks to @ashewheeler and his ingenuity with the handle, I think I just came up with a great idea:

    http://burtonriglet.com/howto-burton-riglet-reel/

Made for towing your kid snowboarding, this retractable handle could likely mount to the center of the fender. That way you could grab it when about to hit the jump, sketchy area, whatever...the release it back to the mount automatically. BOOM. Game changer?? Best of both worlds!

Back to mowing the yard. 🙌🤘🤙

@braswell BTW, you don't have to cut a hole for the hypercore if you'd prefer not to. The heat doesn't actually come through that hole like it appears it does in the graphic Future Motion uses. Those arrows are showing that the heat is being pulled from the axle of the wheel, not really through the holes in the rails. It's more being dispersed across the aluminum frame and immediately into the air.

@braswell I later read some mixed reviews of the riglet, so I'm Not sure anymore. Worried about the strength. I started looking for a stronger alternative and found this:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009FGA1HM/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8

It's kind of bulky and I don't think it would be ideal, but it's worth considering.

I need my plus before I can try anything 😔

I started thinking a strong bungee might work, kind of like what the burton no fish board used to have. I dunno.

I still am waiting on @ashewheeler to post the shopping list for his setup!

I modified an old school deck and a pool deck and mounted them on Onewheels. The pool deck is 11.25" x 34" the smaller one is 10" x 33". I used 1/4" neoprene underneath the boards and skid rails under the sides. I wanted the feel of a concave board front and back and on the sides. I'm not much of a wood worker - so I tried this and love the feel and control. One rides like a big power boat and the other (hoosier) rides like a jet ski.

@Snurfer I used their products to make new footpads before. As someone with zero experience laminating, it was harder than the site made it out to be, and my finished product ended up warping after a few months, probably due to my lack of experience, just my 0.02$. The color options are interesting though, someday I'd like to try again and build multi-colored footpads for my V2

Trying to decide between these wraps: 3M Red Metallic and Autvivid Carbon Fiber Burgundy.
I was also considering layering 2 colors (like burgundy and black) and cutting out a pattern revealing the color below but I'm not sure how well these things sit on top of each other...

Possibly a burgundy wrap with a spiderman logo cut out to reveal the onewheel blue underneath?

@iiikz Quick Question: Were you able to peel off the original tape in once piece?

If so, I may do the same and try and keep the original on standby in case I need to send in for warranty work. That way I could potentially re-apply the original tape to avoid voiding the warranty.

WOW! Thanks for sharing your pictures. This is my first time seeing all of your modifications and I like futureboy's because it looks like my board, the Doubletail. I transferred my V1 sensor to an Onetail so I can have Onetails on both sides. Many people claimed I'd nosedive more because of that modification but it isn't true lol! I would LOVE to use the sensor from a plus footpad because they are larger than the V1 sensor but they are not available for sale yet. Anyway, the flight fins inspired me to install Freeboad's S2 Bindings on the Doubletail so I can carve harder and jump over cracks, tree roots, and curbs. Now, many people are claiming I will break my ankles if I nosedive lol. I like the detachable S2 bindings and it gives my board a double personality lol. Without them, it's name is still the Doubletail but when I put the bindings back on I call my board the Ankle Breaker ha.0_1513705201539_20171208_203332.jpg 0_1513705212070_20171208_203335.jpg 0_1513705226793_20171013_100118.jpg 0_1513705233299_20171208_234414.jpg 0_1513705242198_20171209_002845.jpg

@steeve I used a heat gun on low setting to make the tape easier to peel off (be careful not to melt the tape). I read that blow dryers work too also some people leave their OW in the sun for few hours to soften the tape. The challenge for me was removing the plastic covering the sensor it was glued down pretty good (I used putty knife).

@ow-miami Looks good! What kind of grip tape did you use?

I got rid of the S2 bindings because I realized I like to use the Onewheel for cruising, not tricks/flights. Anyway, I got tired of waiting for the plus footpad so I put two V1 sensors in parallel on my Onetail. It works really nice and it feels like a plus footpad lol. My wife loved my mod so I made a second one for her Onewheel! I know this set up cost $100 for two sensors plus $100 for the Onetail on each side but it is WORTH it!!!0_1520031616948_double sensor.jpg

@sonny123 Onewheels float - so no worries. Sent mine off the dock into the lake. A paddle tire and some more power; then I will be able rip across the lake.

Your tire lettering looks great! Nice job!

Did you cut your XR graphic by hand? Or do you have access to a SUMA plotter?

@JFB all the tape work you see was by hand.

Question is the pool deck right on top of the stock sensor foot pad with 1/4 neoprene between the pool deck and stock foot pad. What did you mean by : the boards and skid rails under the sides?
    I would appreciate a reply.
