Carrying Onewheel

I use my Onewheel to commute to and from my home and office to the train station. There is an unavoidable amount picking up and carrying my beloved but heavy and awkward Onewheel, and I wound up significantly straining both my elbows/triceps/forearms picking up the Onewheel, muscling it through crowds, carrying it through narrow doorways, etc. None of the after-market products I've seen would do anything to address the fact that no matter what, you're using one arm to lift and manipulate an awkward 25 pound thing. I thought a webbed over-the-should strap with a flat hook that fits into the bumper handhold might help. Just ordered the materials--less than $13. I'll post a picture and link if it works.

Look into those tiny lightweight dolly that can be carried into a backpack.
That would be my choice if I had to carry it. -
Actually this one seems to have longer extended handle.

Someone on here has a kickstarter that integrates a couple of wheels into the bumper which allows "carrying" your onewheel into a rolling it.
There's also some home made casters that people have clamped on that does the same thing but cheaper. Search through the forums, I'm sure you will find them.

I am generally opposed to adding stuff onto the Onewheel itself, want to keep the extra gear to a minimum (a handcart is a hard "No"), and really don't want to drag the Onewheel like a suitcase or a wagon. We'll see--I like cheap, homemade solutions that work, and let me quit using my arms/elbows to move this thing.

From a galaxy not too far away:
@bdech15 said in Mafia Slingpack bag - $225 before tax!!!:
@dalisdair I bought the bag from Academy Sports then wandered into REI with my OW today. I found this Osprey pack for $130 which allows you to strap the board to the outside of the pack and it's a lot smaller than the bag from Academy...which makes it manageable to wear while riding. We tried several different packs and this one was perfect, not to mention the warranty on the pack

Makes me wonder if these straps from amazon would work for jus about any backpack you use already:

Not bad.

The hook and strap are total winners in my book. They collectively cost less than $12. I sling the strap cross-shoulder over the top of my messenger bag, so it adds practically nothing in terms of extra crap I'm carrying. It's super fast (I just bend a little at the knees, hook into the bumper finger grip, and stand up), avoids the horror of carrying a handcart or pulling the Onewheel like a wagon, and is infinitely faster than trying to cram this thing into a bag or backpack.

@shattle Link to where you got that hook?

But I think you could probably buy it off the shelf at a hardware store.

I just checked strapworks.com; you can get a two inch wide 60" long polyester strap and buckle for under $7. At a $1.89 for the hook, and under $10 for the whole rig, this is unbeatable. I'll go toe to toe on a speed/convenience/functionality challenge any day against extra wheels bolted onto a Onewheel (a Threewheel?) Plus, you can make it yourself instead of paying someone a $100 to do it.

@shattle You can also get the "Thermo-plastic Handle on 1in Black Tubular Nylon Webbing" to make yourself a handle for only $3.75 each. I ordered 5 of them to try some different options for my plus when it gets here. I already have plenty of webbing, buckles, and velcro from my hammock making hobby.

But then I would have to pick up my Onewheel with my arms/elbows/forearms and muscle it around, which is what caused the pain I'm now trying to avoid.
-
@shattle I wasn't sure what they were called or what they're usually used for, which can make it difficult to find in a hardware store... but is it the 2" uncoated flat hook here?

@thegreck Yep, that's the one. I ordered the one inch coated one as well, but the tongue on the one inch hook was not deep enough to fit in to the bumper grip.
