Allen's put in with 10000 pounds of torque

Why in the flying f#$@ did they put the screws in with 8 million pounds of torque and then give you a tiny Allen to try and unscrew them for the fender. I can't get 2 out and I've broke one Allen already. Should I just drill them out?
-
@OneWheelNoob the original screws are secured with Loc-tite so they're tricky to remove the first time. I found that slow, heavy, even pressure works, and be sure the allen is seated all the way inside the head for best grip.

@OneWheelNoob lol I just had a similar meltdown about this 2 days ago and asked myself the same exact questions. If the screws strip, your best bet and probably only one is to get an extractor set to drill out the screws ( be very cautious on the side that has the power cable). When you do get new ones in then this will be something you shouldn't ever have to worry about. That fender is a must! Keeps the ride way cleaner!

@BradK of course the 2 on the power side are stripped out. I got the other 2 out.

I would use an impact screw driver.. it ratchets when you hit it with a hammer.. works every time

@njcustom tried that. No luck.

@OneWheelNoob
I hear you. Got tons of that during my RC days.
If you have a dremel tool, try cutting for flat screw driver. -

@sonny123 I tried making a Phillips before I read this and that didn't go so well. https://imgur.com/gallery/ReI4h

and use heat for the lock tite
-
I had the same problem. I had to drill the heads and then hit them with a punch very hard several times before they broke loose.

Update: after coming back the next day and cooling down I cut it with the dremel and then hammered the crap out of it with an impact screw driver. Thanks for all your help guys, couldn't have done it without you.
-
@OneWheelNoob I agree, I knew they had thread lock on them, but geez! I have the busted knuckle to prove it, when the screw finally broke loose my finger slammed against the aluminum side of the board and took all the skin off the top of my knuckle... I used steady pressure with my foot/shoe after that.
-
Why the eff did they use lock tite? Aren't the screws attaching exactly zero things to the board when you first get it?
-
OOneWheelNoob @COKids 18 April 2017, 21:15 UTC
@COKids I broke 2 allen wrenches trying to muscle it.
-
OOneWheelNoob @thegreck 18 April 2017, 21:16 UTC
@thegreck Yeah, some genius was really thinking when they decided to lock tite something holding nothing.

Try using a hot hair dryer on the screws before attempting to turn it. It will soften up the lock tite.

Snapped an Allen wrench and two Allen drivers on an impact driver. Got three bolts out and one of them now has a tiny chip of 1/8" male Allen wrench tip tapered into the female allen bolt receptacle. Ridiculous they loctited these bolts. Riding without a fender in Seattle is not a viable option.
