Bluetooth connection got worse
-
Jjebes250 28 July 2019, 18:04 UTC
I have an XR. After upgrading (iPhone) app to 2.2.15, my Bluetooth connection got even worse. I didn’t mind too much before as I don’t watch the app when riding, but now, it disconnects/reconnects multiple times when standing still, and takes minutes before the total mileage updates. Anyone else experience this?

KKielanders @jebes250 28 July 2019, 22:24 UTC
@jebes250
I'm using a Samsung on Android, my connection is hit and miss, and sometimes will take a few cycles on the app to get an initial connection.
I don't monitor my riding either, but my mileage with top speed will update immediately at the end of my ride.

@jebes250 check which hardware you got...if is the old one you must send to FM for upgrading
-
KKielanders @tartax 1 August 2019, 06:08 UTC
@tartax
Any idea the dates of board manufacture that is classified as old?
-
Jjebes250 @tartax 2 August 2019, 18:32 UTC
@tartax
Firmware = 4208
This is the firmware with the issue. It was tolerable before this last app update. I might have to send it back. I did open a case, but got no response. I guess I'll have to re-submit. -

i had to send to FM to upgrade and now is perfect. -
You actually have to send the boards out for firmware updates? There's not just a download link? Yikes!
-
@a_onekatie just a typo. The 4208/4209 upgrade is Hardware not firmware. So yes that upgrade is factory only.

@stinkyface exactly..is an hardware issue

This is really sad to hear, as this issue on the XR was systemic . . . many XRs had the 4208 firmware and very few (if any) had working bluetooth. The board should stay connected anytime you are within 30 feet, but especially when you are on the board. I fear that as more Pints are shipped, @Future-Motion may have another support issue on their hands. This is a warranty issue and they will have to pay to fix this as well as shipping both ways on affected units. Someone needs to confirm this problem with FM and get authorized for the repair.
I bought my XR after the pre-order/shipment delays, so I got it within 3 days (all the way to Hawaii). This issue was already reported, but I had thought "maybe" they would have fixed new XRs going out. After a few boards were fixed, I contacted them and they had me send it in for the repair. Once they put in the firmware 4209, the bluetooth has been working flawlessly.
As folks get their Pints, please try to report back here as to if your bluetooth stays connected so we'll have an idea just how big of an issue this is. No one should have a board that doesn't function properly, especially when it's trying to warn you that your foot has left the sensor or your battery is halfway to empty.
Edit: Of course, there's a chance that maybe the new version of the app is to blame . . . we can only hope.
-
@stinkyface ahh, got it now thanks!
Guess I wrote this elsewhere, but I can def confirm that my Pint is having connection issues. My hope is that there must be an update in the pipeline, since custom shaping is not currently an option for Pint users.

My Pint is having Bluetooth connection issues as well. Mine is an early s/n sage (170wh). Wondering if any of the more recent ones built are also having the issue. Hopefully this can be fixed via update unlike the XR’s
-
having this issue with my original sage pint also, no such issue with the 2 month old XR same place and conditions. more than 3ft away and pint won't stay connected.

KKWasch @b0ardski 31 August 2019, 05:24 UTC
@b0ardski
That’s what I was afraid of. Thinking it might be time to call FM -
I an using an android phone and my XR has the newer 4209 hardware. It connects pretty well most of the time.
But every so often, Maybe 1 in 40 or so, it acts like the board is off. Shutting down the app, including clearing all screens, and restarting won't help. The only way to get it to connect when this happens it to restart the phone. Then all is well again.
This suggests to me a slightly buggy app that isn't clearing the memory as it should. -
@KWasch I am same, same as you.
I’ve found that the only somewhat reliable way to keep a connection and get accurate speed read outs etc is if I literally hold my phone in my hand with the app open while I ride. Obviously this isn’t ideal. But it does make me think an apple watch should work. I know others have stated the apple watch didn’t connect so well on the other models but I am wondering if anyone has tried one with a Pint specifically?
-
@a_onekatie it’s really disappointing if the Pint has the same Bluetooth issues as the previous version of the XR, the reason it was delayed is because they wanted everything to be right on it before it was dispatched.
-
KKWasch @a_onekatie 31 August 2019, 18:23 UTC
@a_onekatie
I use an Apple Watch with my pint. Gets disconnected since it runs off the iPhone app. As soon as the phone disconnects so does the watch. I basically have to keep pulling it out of my pocket to get it to reconnect. FM needs to fix this ASAP -

The watch doesn't connect to the board, it connects to your phone that is connected to the board. It's the same with Android. What I did before sending my XR in for the replacement hardware was that I would put my phone in the lower pocket of my cargo shorts where it was about 2 feet from the board. I would then run the OW app on my Wear OS watch, connected to the phone, and that would work 90% of the time.
This is not good if the Pint has a similar issue to what the XR had when it came out and it took them a LONG time to admit it was an issue and then fix it. I waited until that happened and was able to get mine fixed under warranty, including shipping both ways.
I think everyone with a Pint that doesn't hold the bluetooth connection needs to notify @Future-Motion right away. This is a major feature of the board and no one should have to deal with a broken feature. Also, after 1 year is up, this won't be covered by the warranty.
Edit: As @KWasch stated, FM needs to be made aware of this and fix it ASAP.

Ttzracer22 @OneDan+ 2 September 2019, 01:52 UTC
@OneDan this doesn't sound good as I had loads of disconnects today. I'm in the UK so it'll be great fun getting it resolved I suspect!
-
@tzracer22 Have you made FM aware of the issue, if not you should do immediately. This needs to be resolved asap. Good luck if you have to send your board back.
-
Ttzracer22 @Mark Vlogs 17 September 2019, 17:40 UTC
@Mark-Vlogs just emailed fm as it wouldn't reconnect at all earlier until the board had been off for 5 mins
-
@tzracer22 Although this is unfortunate, you’ve done the right thing bringing it to FM attention. Hope you can get it resolved, keep us updated.

OP Update:
I sent my XR to FM to evaluate the bluetooth issue, and it was repaired under warranty; controller circuit board replaced, and hardware version is now 4209. I did a quick test indoors, and it appears to be maintaining a bluetooth connection at least 10-15 feet away while riding. (One mile of loops in the basement with my iPhone 6s NOT in my pocket, and it never disconnected.)From PA to CA and back was less than 3 weeks.
No other noticeable difference with the newer HW rev, but I haven't been outside with it yet where I can get above 8 mph. The only thing I'm hoping for is more obvious push-back, like the PINT apparently has, but probably not the case. One can dream though!

I decided to make a couple videos myself. I just picked up a Onewheel Plus while I was waiting for my Pint to come in. I'm not doing any tricks or anything and used my GoPro Session 4 with Quick to edit the video. Just used whatever music they had when putting these together. I was Riding through the Forest Preserve by my work on my lunch break. First time ever posting stuff to YouTube. If you check it out, thanks for watching.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zikTE1HRj5o&tI had to re-upload the video because the ratio was not set right, then the link was broke. Second video should work now.

@ShreddieMcskate yeah I was planning on putting on some carbon fiber wraps on my board but I was wondering what's the trick to get the cuts clean and precise like yours. How do you March the exact shape and size of the board?
