I was going to add a plug holder to my XR and to do so drill a small hole in the rail to add a rivnut or rivet depending. My question is before I drill into the rail are they hollow? If I drill in am I going to hit any wiring or anything important?
    Thanks

No and Yes. They are 3 sided square section aluminum, and depending on where you drill you will hit: wires, batteries, or control board. You need to do some disassembly before drilling any small hole.

@Sponge315 is correct. It's aluminum C-Channel ~4mm thick. You should at least watch some disassembly vids before attempting so you understand what's in there.
