Hiya,
Long time lurker that's slowly creeping out of her shell. Active on reddit but wanted to start engaging with my fellow floaters over here too :)
I recently compiled some footage I've acquired over the better parts of the UK weather this year during my daily floating endeavours. Packaged it up in a little montage for you all to enjoy <3

Through wetness! Worth looking at, this post is. Lia from the UK and #4 on the XR Daystreak with 1 yr. 105 days straight and counting.

@Lia all that water makes me so nervous! don't think i'd take my Pint through that...!

@blkwalnutgrwr There's something so appealing to me about riding through water, I just can't resist anytime I see something shallow enough.
-
Lia @Franko 21 July 2020, 19:57 UTC
@Franko I still get a bit nervous when doing so. Even with it being badgered I try my best not to take it too far.
-
Franko @Lia 21 July 2020, 20:54 UTC
@Lia ahh, you badgered it -- that explains it. that would help.

@Franko after living in UK for a couple of years. Badgering would be a must. Great vid @Lia

Notice the reflection of the umbrella in the puddle.

Lia @blkwalnutgrwr 24 July 2020, 00:38 UTC
@blkwalnutgrwr Does the umbrella collapse at all when riding with it? Never thought to ride with one before ;)
Also what's the clamp like thing you've got on the fender, strap for a battery?
-
blkwalnutgrwr @Lia 24 July 2020, 01:23 UTC
@Lia The umbrella is a 'gust-proof' design which works very well indeed. And while the umbrella keeps the rain out of my face and off my eyeglasses, the rest of me does tend to get wet.
The clamp-like ratchet strap keeps my fender on. The fender then comes off easily to clear wet leaves or debris. And yes, I do use a parallel battery or booster, sometimes held on with a ratchet strap.
A thought on Badgering: Recheck the seals seasonally. In the autumn I Badgered my board, the next autumn I Badgered again, but in in the following rainy, wet spring weather I got water damage to my BMS -- and it started treating almost any regen as overcharge. Zombied now, it is.

@blkwalnutgrwr Ah fair enough, good idea with the fender!
I'm usually dinking about in the controller so I end up re-badgering every few months. Good shout though on giving it a refresh every now and then. On my XR there are 2 holes in the metal lid for the battery which only has the internal gasket covering it. Seen a few boards go bad presumably because of that with water seeping round the pad and into that hole. I think it's there to allow the pad bolt to fit properly but ends up compromising the seal.

@Lia i ride with a brolly on wet commutes. Just keep the speed down and watch the tilt of the brolly so wind doesn't grab it.

@stinkyface and @Lia -- Onewheeling with an umbrella adds another balance dimension.

@blkwalnutgrwr looks hilarious too! I get so many looks when it rains, all smiles!!

Found my new favourite spot to ride, only possible when itβs as shallow as this.
Most of the vid is in water so viewing may be uncomfortable for some floaters, discretion is advised π
Looked like I was getting her deeper than what shows on the vid, guess I can attempt the middle next time where it gets a little deeper.
